First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

It is indeed. 60341-4 are coming out of 222001-4 and 60344 will be going into 222005. 60341-3 will become the spare off lease cars.

When will Lumo (West Coast) start?

No, not that you would get much from ORCATS these days, thanks to dedicated fares. The stopping pattern has a lot to do with connections as much as originating traffic. Too many stops and it becomes a glorified stopping service which doesn’t give you (the operator) the value you want.

Helpston Crossing near-miss caused by signaller - RAIB report

A tale of woe and one that could have had a very different outcome. It points out a lack of understanding on behalf of the signaller concerned and a lack of curiosity by the LOM. If I was an inspector doing a box visit (and not in peak times either - what was that all about?) I would be...

    Introduction of Mark 2Z/A/B/C stock

Iirc, that was an RR Edge Hill set comprised of ex NSE vehicles. The cobbler sets were all Mk1 and they ended up at the Oak on the Oxfords together with the ex Cambridge/Lynn Mk2 sets. About half the Oxfords were used all day so they didn’t have the same problem with batteries as the cobblers...

    Summer, at the earliest.

    How do TOCs purchase fuel?

Yes, they do hedge. Fuel has also sometimes been purchased on an owning group basis rather than by individual TOC.

    Leyland Rail Motors 29950-29952

RCTS Locomotives of the LMS series has them detailed in their “LMS Diesel Locomotives and Railcars” book. Pages 189 to 193 cover these three railcars.

    Hereford loco sheds

The ex Midland shed closed in 1924 and the engines and men “transferred” to the ex LNWR shed. When that closed in 1938, the engines were dealt with and stabled at the GWR shed.

Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway updates

It’s a PR event, using a charter set to take people to London where a petition was rumoured to be handed into No 10. All done by using GBRF. They are not going to use LHCS for their own services - it’s 221 units or nothing. .

I wouldn’t put too much faith in what RAIL has said.

Division of work from BR to Privatisation.

Depots had already been sectorised so each depot was “owned” by a particular sub-sector. These sub-sectors formed the business units that were either bundled up for sale or just sold as individual TOCs. There was a disaggregation exercise done in 1993 to make sure all staff were going to be in...

Be careful with those figures - they are modelled, not actuals.

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

Iirc, the fire at Queensland Road occurred in the early 1980’s when they were doing some DC training on the training track just outside and when the short circuiting bar was applied, the breaker didn’t blow. The current tracked across the yard and blew a hole in the signal air pipe, it took out...

Potential cascade options for Voyagers on leaving XC?

Cost of running has no bearing on setting fares on a route - the two are not linked. Using Voyagers on services that don’t run at high speed but do have frequent stops will not work at all well. They need to stick to routes that have a degree of fast running between stops and also stopping at...

    Hull Trains Strike over dismissal

I’ll say it again - the driver was on the managements radar before he aired his concern. At that brief he admitted to driving whilst severely fatigued but he did not report it at the time of fatigue. The relevant procedures then kicked in - not self reporting at the time of any safety incident...

    Hull Trains Strike over dismissal

Just stop the FG hate stuff. It isn’t relevant here. The driver concerned was on managements radar well before the concerns were raised by him in that manner. Once he opened his mouth, then the usual processes would kick in. You just don’t, ever, put yourself out on a limb like that. As a...

Multiple lines closed 27 Jan in South West and central South due to flooding

It will but it’s long term future has to be in doubt if weather patterns continue to severely disrupt it.

Avanti WC trains picking up at Watford Junction who decides

The issue is picking up at Watford Junction during the morning peak. Even in BR days it used to be a hit and miss, and only when the announcer in the box used to tell you to go over to 7 were you “allowed” to board an intercity into Euston. Sectorisation changed that and it became harder to...

The Railways Bill - discussion about the legislation that will create Great British Railways

The usual process for a Government bill at committee stage is for any opposition amendment to be voted down and any Government amendment to be passed. There will be a brief discussion between the proposer of the amendment and the MP fronting for the Government, the latter reading from a (DfT)...
