    Loconundrum

I haven't been able to remember every puzzle since I started playing, and can't remember if Shrewsbury has been used twice in that time... But if it has, it means there's no point in finding out what stations had come up before, as there's nothing to say they won't come up again. In the last few...

    Older cars you have seen

*Reliant Robin. <( (sorry, but it really grinds my gears, that. Nobody ever seems to switch the order of ANY other car, but for some reason loads of people do it with Reliant Robins. Just Robins too- I've never heard anyone say "Scimitar Reliant"). Though you do hear people say "E-Type Jag"...

    Future of the 350/2s

But if the replacements aren't suitable, they aren't suitable. It's a bit baffling that Glossop is always the "go-to" place to put them considering the constraints of that line. Stokes, Crewes etc. are more suited to 350s but AIUI all the West side electrics interwork to some extent. We can have...

Drop off fees at Train stations?

That's my trick... Don't tell everyone!

    Future of the 350/2s

Nobody would be suggesting this if the 350/2s weren't homeless though. Indeed if someone did they'd probably get shouted down for adding another "microfleet". Changing the timetable in order to work more efficiently is one thing, changing it to increase overall capacity by using the "circular"...

    Loconundrum

Lichfield City was a tricky one. I started at Leeds so got the first letter, and in trying to work out where there'd be two 5 minute journeys to get there I went for Liverpool Central (I'd momentarily swapped Moorfields & Central in my head)... Of course the game assumes a walk anyway if going...

Should have Network Southeast when they electrified the Hastings line, also electrified other lines?

I vaguely recall some discussion somewhere about how DC to Uckfield would be problematic as it couldn't all be fed from Oxted as 750v DC needs more frequent feeders and there was no suitable existing power lines to feed from. Although IANAEE (the final two letters standing for Electrical Engineer!).

Taxis well off their usual patch

Saw a taxi in Dewsbury yesterday which was plated for Ashfield in Notts.

Should have Network Southeast when they electrified the Hastings line, also electrified other lines?

Wasn't there an issue with grid supply that prevented DC to Uckfield? Or at least pushed the costs beyond what BR were willing to fund?

    Loconundrum

Yesterday's (#69) was nice and easy with starting close to home!

    West Yorkshire bus franchising

That would be great, if only they weren't (mis-)using the word Metro for buses. "Merseybus" was right there! I had a proper look at the Weaver Network signage at Mirfield today, and the logo that's been chosen is frankly rubbish. It looks like they copied Wakefield Council's old logo (still...

    15X Fleet future & withdrawal

Indeed- I used the late evening service on the final day of service to Ravensthorpe in December. Of course meant that the standard hourly stopper from Leeds to Huddersfield is diverted to and from Bradford Interchange, outside of services at the start and end of each day to get units off and...

    Loconundrum

Hopefully everyone who wants to still do today's puzzle will either be done by now or will steer clear until they've done it- I don't know how to do spoiler tags! I started at Leeds as per usual, but was thrown off until I remembered it uses data from the Sunday timetable... Initially I went...

Accurascale's latest announcement: MoD ODA wagons. Thinking about getting a 3-pack to run with my 31... :)

Spotted this T-shirt and thought of this forum…

Just be glad it wasn't a Class 67... The "You wouldn't just put everything through as carrots" shopping bag is a winner for me!

Taxis well off their usual patch

Most of the cabs round my way have both branding for the operator, and Uber branding. The operator has offices in Batley, Dewsbury and Heckmondwike (and possibly other towns too) which are all in Kirklees, but some vehicles have "foreign" private hire licence plates.

Trivia: Unusual animals on buses (snakes etc)

I've travelled on buses in the past with an assortment of four-legged companions. Including a trip from Huddersfield to the PDSA at the far side of Bradford (3 buses) with a rabbit in a cat carrier, then back again with the same rabbit minus two organs!

Transpennine Route Upgrade Electrification: what will the new trains and timetable be like when it's finished?

So do the decision-makers at the Department for Transport, clearly... hence the decision being (mostly) reversed. I can see the argument though, concentrating the longer-distance services at Piccadilly made sense on paper. Just a shame it didn't make much sense based on the railway infrastructure!

Taxis well off their usual patch

This is a much more fiddly discussion since taxi/private hire licencing was liberalised, as you can see locally-based cabs with plates from distant local authorities. See the discussion about Wolverhampton-plated cabs. Rail Replacement work can send taxis quite some distance at times. I once...

    Older cars you have seen

Yesterday on the M62 westbound near Chain Bar interchange (M606) saw a mint condition Vauxhall Combi (Corsa-based van with raised roof in the cargo area) on a 51 plate. Flew past me at about 80mph!
