£48m boost for Penistone line service doubling and capacity increases

The problem with skipping stops, particularly at the northern end of the line, is the schools traffic. Berry Brow is pretty much the northern end of the catchment for the school at Honley, so you wouldn't want to skip it at school-run times. I suspect that Lockwood's figures may be artificially...

Class 153s - further use, preservation and scrap

In my (admittedly limited) experience, drivers are just as likely to grumble about the big cabs as they are the small ones. AIUI a bit more thought went into the ergonomics of the smaller cabs because it was needed to make everything fit!

£48m boost for Penistone line service doubling and capacity increases

I know the Colne Valley's new(ish) MP has to pay lip service to the daft name of the council, but that doesn't make the point about "connecting" Kirklees any less nonsensical. Kirklees doesn't exist as a place, it's a silly "neutral" name chosen for a council area that was too big in the 1970s...

    Healey Mills Happenings?

Or drag them to/from HM paired up with an 800. They run in passenger service between Leeds and Harrogate like that, so getting to the sidings wouldn't be too much of a headache.

Does anyone else sit in the pet area on ferries, without a pet, just to be around puppets?

I'm guessing the intended word may have been the 'internet-speak' term: "puppers" (further supported by my own device offering the same correction).

Why isn’t Hull being electrified under the Trans Pennine Route Upgrade?

Selby swing bridge shouldn't be a show-stopper if the political will is there to get the job done. Trowse swing bridge seems to work okay with wires, and there are several in the Netherlands. It complicates matters a little, sure- but it's less of a problem than a tunnel with tight clearances...

    2 or 3 door vehicles

A lot of them seem to have a fault which makes them go 75% of the way around a roundabout from the left hand lane though!

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I've not had anything specifically to do with station plans in regard to Batley- so far it's just been about noise and road closures. Understandable as the plans here aren't as advanced, and aren't likely to be quite as disruptive.

Line names that are no longer used.

It's no surprise that "Three Rivers Line" didn't catch on... and it would be a rather cruel twist if what is now called the Pontefract Line was still called "The Goole Line"! I'm not aware of any attempts by WYPTE or anyone else to rebrand the Penistone Line, but I'm sure some will have tried!

    Where to see Northern 156s?

Avoid Yorkshire, apart from Middlesbrough to Whitby and Saltburn (leaving aside whether Boro or Saltburn are considered Yorkshire ;) ). They may occasionally get to Sheffield via Hope Valley, but I'm not sure that happens much if at all. The days of them being regular traction on Huddersfield to...

    2 or 3 door vehicles

The main problem with driving a RHD car on the French Autoroutes is the toll gates!

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Just for clarity- will this be in passenger service? Or ECS just to get them out of the way?

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

It's easy to forget that there's no access to the main up line from Healey Mills. I'm not sure of the timeline of the current layout but presumably it was established in the late 70s or early 80s. It's before my time, but I don't believe there was ever a period where services from Wakefield...

Trivia: Ideas and concepts that didn't work out

The concept of having to validate tickets has always seemed odd to me. You have to pay to obtain the ticket from the machine, why does that act in itself not constitute "validation'?

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

How long before there's a "Top Tip" in Viz along the lines of "Attract an environmentally-conscious partner by sticking a bit of green electrical tape to the end of your car number plate."?

    White Rose Agreement

Don't let Stagecoach off the hook... the years of well established routes between Huddersfield and Barnsley under Yorkshire Traction ended on their watch when they pulled out of Huddersfield. Outside of the brief ownership of Waterloo (and the odd service into Wakefield and Leeds) West Yorkshire...

GBRF confirms conversion of Class 56s to Class 69s

To paraphrase Tenacious D:- "This is not, the greatest livery in the world... Oh no, this is just a tribute!" Of course some folk will still grumble and pick holes either because it wasn't their personal choice of heritage livery or because there's some minor detail they dislike. Think if I ran...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Hopefully they'll get that right this time, and it won't have to be cordoned off every few years to be shored up like the existing platform does. Of course it will help that there shouldn't be a void underneath the new section of platform! Speaking of which, I hope the issues with the...
