    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

It's the heavy oil that the US badly needs, in case there was ever any doubt that everything leading up to this was simply about the oil.

Elon Musk - the world's "greatest" spiv?

The problem is that a lot of people still have accounts (many refusing to acknowledge it being X now) and companies have invested a lot in the software that manages all posts, including private messages but also monitoring themes via keywords to analyse the general feeling from customers. Some...

Elon Musk - the world's "greatest" spiv?

The sad thing is that doing all the dodgy AI porn stuff (including some very likely underage stuff) is probably getting Elon many more subscriptions - which he'll use to prove there's demand for Grok and AI in general.

Internal locked door - Class 700 First Class

Drivers won't give a stuff about tickets being held (and first is declassified both ends on both Rainham and Sevenoaks services operated by Thameslink) but if kids are being anti social and smoking weed etc, then I can see why they'd rather do this than simply stand down and terminate wherever...

Internal locked door - Class 700 First Class

I don't know much about the Rainham line but the issue to Sevenoaks is often fully uniformed school kids who do ridiculous things. Besides the smoking issue (I assume the driver shuts off the compartment only if someone does it, not in case they do it) the other issues are trespassing and...

Internal locked door - Class 700 First Class

It's been known to shut first class behind the driver cab when people have been smoking (especially weed) as the alternative is to refuse to take the train any further. I would say Rainham trains are pretty much competing with Sevenoaks trains for anti social behaviour.

    Most likely for tax reasons?

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

Well, in all cases (especially the ridiculous 'Full Self Driving' that has 'Supervised' added on because it's anything but) you really must be ready to take over. For me that does make such features rather silly if they can't work 100%. I haven't experienced Lane Keep Assist doing anything...

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

Yes, there have certainly been some cars that have (at least early on) had software issues with things like lane keep assist, that can actively steer a vehicle into danger without quick intervention. (A bit like Tesla Autopilot or FSD (supervised) deciding do something stupid and you having to...

Yup, buttons for the win! Having to use a touch screen for key functions, or expecting people to press a button to voice control something (which, if it doesn't hear correctly, or does the wrong thing, causes more hassle) should not be a thing. Remember, car makers found that a cheap TFT...

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

While you can deactivate many active safety features (sometimes with a single shortcut key, at least on my car) there is some concern that if you have an accident and it can be considered something such a system could have helped prevent, it could be used against you. I don't know if any...

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

At some point, long stay car parks will have more and more people expecting to be able to trickle charge. At first people may pay extra for the convenience, then later people will possibly seek to book only with companies that offer it. At that point, you can expect most car parks to offer...

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

I think one photo (or was it a video) released recently - supposedly of Epstiens prison cell - was clearly fake and I wonder if their new strategy will be to flood everyone with made up stuff that can also help discredit the genuine stuff. They can claim that nobody can be sure what's real and...

What the heck is that charger you posted photos of? That's a destination charger surely? If you weren't staying there or visiting something then surely you wouldn't be using what I assume is a 7 or maybe 11kWh AC charger? It would take hours to charge. Destination chargers are often not even...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Trains have been really quiet today, even on the Underground. Lots of families with kids, as well as people going to the darts and Arsenal, but few workers who are probably now off until the new year.

I used to find petrol stations through a navigation app, so what's the difference between finding a petrol station and a public EV charger? I'm yet to visit an EV charging site that's dark or hidden. Some are quiet, yes, if charging at night - which isn't really something I would do. My days of...

The ones without card readers most likely aren't open to all. I am sure Tesla can avoid the rules if they have their own private network for Tesla owners only? I haven't been to a site without a card reader yet, but that's probably because I mostly charge at home and really don't use fast...

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

There are over 120,000 chargers out there, and many app show where they all are and how many bays are free - so finding a charger without a queue (and one that is working) is easy. I initially feared it might be hard to find a charger in a large car park/retail park, but they're always shown...

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

On social media, there are so many people who keep telling us all that we need to buy a diesel so we can do 400-600 miles on a single fill up. I am yet to work out if they think they're going to make EV owners realise their mistake and go back. Most, if not all, EV owners had a petrol or diesel...
