    New Year’s Day services

Very few bus operators run on New Year's Day outside the metropolitan areas. Here's a screenshot of the live map on bustimes.org, showing sporadic operations in some places, but mostly nothing at all.

Audio/visual "next stop" announcements on buses

Depends on the passenger capacity of the minibus. If it can carry less than seventeen passengers, the regs don't apply. (Note that this a different threshold to PSV Accessibility Regulations, which exclude buses for 22 passengers or fewer).

Quirky or quaint practices on buses in the past

Yes, I certainly recall the paper stickers, especially when Eastern Scottish had one of its periodic vehicle shortages, and all sorts of things would appear (including Lothian PD2s, some of which were later purchased and repainted green). But it may also have reflected that the Edinburgh depot...

Quirky or quaint practices on buses in the past

The discussion about use or otherwise of route numbers reminds me that many Scottish Bus Group timetable books were not arranged in route number order, but consisted of numbered tables that generally bore no resemblance to the route numbers that they featured. It was necessary to check an index...

Audio/visual "next stop" announcements on buses

No they don't (but to some extent would have been better if they had); indeed, there is no reference to NaPTAN in the entire Statutory Instrument. The only definition of a Stopping Place is "a place at which prospective passengers are taken up or passengers are set down" - there is no...

    Liverpool City Region-Bus Franchising

That was for a Service Permits Consultation. The papers are freely available on the Liverpool City Region website. The Forward Plan shows another key decision due on franchising in January.

Should First use trainee drivers in service?

I don't disagree, but the original comment that I replied to was "Do you think an industry that runs on wafer thin profits and subsidies as it is, can afford simulators..." and here is evidence that it apparently can.

Should First use trainee drivers in service?

    Arriva Midlands

This is not correct. The ZEBRA grant covers 75% of the additional cost of an electric bus over a diesel bus. The majority of the money put in comes from Arriva, who are in fact paying 125% of the cost of a diesel for each new electric bus. Arriva's share will likely have been somewhere in the...

    Reading Buses and Thames Valley

The frequency reduction is largely in the West Berkshire Council area, not Reading.

First South West (Kernow & Buses of Somerset)

No manufacturer currently offers a convertible option. I'm fairly certain Go South Coast has explored the market before.

They are now also on the Stagecoach website.

Should TfL extend more bus routes beyond Greater London? (and wider discussion regarding redefining London)

Though it is worth noting that different fares apply for parallel journeys on Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann e.g. from Balbriggan to Dublin is 5.30 single on BE but appears to be 2.00 single on DB.

    Stagecoach South & South East

66 is commercial, according to the DVSA website. The DRT was funded by housing developer contributions from the Aylesham area; not sure if this applies to the 92, but if it does, then cutting that end of the route is not an option.

Should TfL extend more bus routes beyond Greater London? (and wider discussion regarding redefining London)

And the opportunity cost of using tube revenue in this way is that it can't be used for capital investment. 10 years of bus subsidies would probably have been enough to build the Lewisham extension of the Bakerloo line. Whether that generates more economic benefits than subsidising buses is a...

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

A quick check on Bustimes of some of Stagecoach Oxford's new generation ADL E400EVs shows that they are quite capable of running up to 21 hours a day on a single charge.

£3 Bus fare cap extended to 2027

On the whole, demographic and lifestyle changes have done for patronage on rural services; a fare cap isn't going to reverse this. Even the pensioner market is disappearing, as supermarkets continue to depart town centres for other locations more difficult to serve by bus, while others switch to...

    Ember: Electric coach service

No, that's shown separately. An increase of £18m over the previous year (£9m). Some of the loss is coming from depreciation, but like a number of start-up businesses they are, as @takno observes in post #947, ploughing capital in at an alarming rate. The ultimate outcome will largely depend on...

    Ember: Electric coach service

No need to guess. The accounts have been published on Companies House website this week, and show a loss of £1.8m on turnover of £9.1m.

SPT consultation for Buchanan Bus Station

It's not a depot. The only record of it being on an Operator Licence is that for the now surrendered one for Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.
