Even thats depends. LNER were keen to provide for commuters. GWR regarded them as a nuisance.LMS were happy to provide for them in the tilbury & Southend line, less so out of Euston & Paddington. But the main line railways were happy for the tube to take over lines in the 30's.

I am amazed the printed press has survived this long. They have been losing circulation year on year for decades. How can anyone justify a print run of under 100,000? And the older generation who buy papers is dying out. I will bet a lot on the fact my adult grandkids dont buy papers ever.

@trainbikesuggest moving them to a hilly route. Well the classic hilly route is Leeds - Carlisle. So not exactly profitable. Dont 185's have high track access charges. That wont help the finances. And does the S&C really need more grunt seeing its 60mph?

There is a proposal to have a station just west on Neville Hill. NL to Crossgates was 4 tracks till the 60's. If and when they wire that bit they should put in passive provision for 4 tracks. The 4 track section ended just west of Crossgates stn where the Wetherby line diverged. What you do...
