    Merseyrail hidden tunnel

Some detail available here on the Liverpool City Council mapping site, confirming what has already been discussed. The pecked / dashed lines show the extent of the underground spaces. Images show a set of screenshots, west to east from the Mersey to beyond Central station: 1702586607 A thread...

New East Linton Station - Progress & Updates

That sounds like the situation for the opening of Inverness Airport, an invitation only non-public call on the official opening day. Contrast and compare with the fanfare for Brent Cross West.

    Ardwick to get new footbridge

I was replying to the comment by @185 which I took to be humorous (or at least the second part was). The comment being fully quoted in the post. 1701894046 Yes, indeed. I just jumped in thinking of the existing Avanti service (which is every 20 minutes) which would either require new...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The Cardiff Planning Portal has the drawings. Specifically the one given below shows two tracks either side of an island, terminal platform. A third track is marked as proposed. This third track and one of the other tracks are 'dashed' and annotated as 'future continuation to Flourish station'...

Ukrainian saboteurs blow up Baikal-Amur Mainline (Russia)

To be fair, it's not the easiest of things to pin down, unless you have a lot of time on your hands. Open Street Map and Open Railway Map come up in Russian (or Chinese / Cryllic Script etc) rather than English. When you zoom in to read place names you lose regional context, when you zoom out to...

[Trivia] How far can you travel on standard gauge track?

Challenging is an understatement if you are thinking of the Wakhan Corridor! But it is a proposal and with a dry port at the border! You'll need your warm coat to work there. I got Kunduz (link with other proposed Afghanistan lines) to the border as 650km, then 400km to the Chinese network...

Altnabreac station and the various legal disputes around it

Indeed, the full story includes an accusation of a hole being dug by Network Rail in the station cottage owners garden, that he then filled in himself. The article includes a photograph but not with sufficient detail to identify the location, except that it was grassed. Now if someone dug a...

Altnabreac station and the various legal disputes around it

Bullied and harassed! A bit like people may have felt when they were confronted by locked, blocked and persons chained to gates when trying to go about their lawful business. What goes around comes around. We all need to get on with each other as best we can. I am sure there were other...

The tie is a strange thing. Serves no other purpose than pointing towards the groin and mopping up gravy. Some people do use them to express their personality eg 'humour' ties. I wore boring ones for decades, stopped wearing one in hot weather then stopped entirely, apart from funerals.

    Ardwick to get new footbridge

Calls in addition to, or instead of terminating at, Piccadilly? Wouldn't it require re-instatement of the Buxton to Matlock line as well though?

A HST to be used in Mexico?

Skyscrapercity, which has relevant threads, has made no mention of HST's to Nigeria, or even ex-UK stock in general terms, even after the article appeared in the UK railway press. The Talgo deal was across the media whilst the trains were still in Milwaukee.

Altnabreac station and the various legal disputes around it

Another extract from The Times article. This would suggest a public 4G signal is probably available. PS. I didn't provide the link to the article without providing the full text, the article is behind a paywall (or a free trial subscription) so I don't want to quote the whole piece.

Railway Worker Sacked for Drinking 'Herbal Tea'

The story I recall (from the national press probably) was that the individual couldn't understand why they had failed the test and only after some time / thought was it realised that the poppy seeds on a vienna roll were the cause of the failed test. As far as I'm aware poppy seeds don't have...

    Ardwick to get new footbridge

I took this picture the other week. If you zoom to the flange on the rear post, you can see straight through it! The original photo is upright, not sure why it is sideways here! Finally - photo taken through a train window whilst stationary awaiting platform, not by trespassing!
