Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

There is! By the entrance to the Northern ticket hall tube entrance. But I agree on the general point with why many people find the direct Thameslink trains preferable rather than changing between Kings Cross and St Pancras.

Thameslink core broken - 13th July 26 - what could be done to improve things?

Let's have a think about why Thameslink from the GN side is a thing. It's not all about journey opportunities to Gatwick Airport, although that's a happy coincidence (when it all works). There's massive housing growth all along the GN route. That's going to mean more people travelling by...

Upgrading/Excessing a Single eTicket to a Day Return - Naive question.

In theory a ticket office should be able to excess it, however this sort of excess is often difficult to obtain, and there is no contractual right to a ‘single to return’ excess. We had a similar discussion a few days ago. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/northern-refusing-to-excess.304489/

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

I’m not sure that’s realistic now given the huge uplift in leisure traffic, especially at weekends. 4x12 cars an hour isn’t going to fit into 2x8. Also, don’t underestimate the number of people who use Thameslink to reach places like London Bridge, Gatwick Airport and Brighton. What needs to...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

The problem is the cat’s out of the bag now, when it works Thameslink is brilliant and it has enabled a big increase in capacity. For example from Stevenage there are four fast trains an hour to London, albeit it a few minutes slower than before, and all 12-car. It wasn’t that long ago that we...

    Connecting services on Advance

The rear first class compartment is declassified on all Thameslink branded trains but we don't need to debate that again here, as it's debated on a frequent basis elsewhere.

    Gatelines - UK vs Europe

Ticket barriers are only one tool in the toolbox when it comes to revenue protection. It's probablyt time for me to regurgitate one of my historic posts about some of the things that should be in a good revenue protection strategy: - Making it easy to buy tickets - Have a decent fares...

Increase of TfL Incomplete Journey Fare Trial

I've no idea worldwide, but Bletchley to Reading Peak via Zone 1 is £51.70 or £51.30 if you avoid Zone 1.

Thameslink core broken - 13th July 26 - what could be done to improve things?

No ticket acceptance was put in place yesterday with LNER between Stevenage and Kings Cross despite the severe disruption.

Clapham Junction to Lancing, back from Amberley

A Southern Daysave should suffice. https://www.southernrailway.com/tickets/daysave If you're doing a walk I'd steer clear of Advance tickets.

An 04:10 train: off-peak AND a network railcard discount

Exactly what train are you proposing to travel on?

Increase of TfL Incomplete Journey Fare Trial

Agreed, but that doesn't mean Cannon Street is immune from the issue.

Increase of TfL Incomplete Journey Fare Trial

It’s not just about Cannon Street or Southeastern. If someone doesn’t touch in, changed en-route and ends up at Cannon Street, the system doesn’t know what they journey is. You could board at Baldock, not touch in and travel to Cannon Street with a change at London Bridge and exit at Cannon Street.

Increase of TfL Incomplete Journey Fare Trial

I thought there was an expansion in the southern part, but even if there wasn’t, the incomplete journey charge doubled last year.

Increase of TfL Incomplete Journey Fare Trial

GTR’s incomplete journey charge doubled last year when the KeyGo PAYG area expanded.

Increase of TfL Incomplete Journey Fare Trial

How would GBR deal with someone forgetting to touch in at Penzance? They could be travelling one stop or to the other end of the country. TfL say this which I don't think has changed. https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/refunds/

Increase of TfL Incomplete Journey Fare Trial

Contactless has been a method of payment on public transport in London since 2014, it's not exactly a new thing. People like the convenience of it and want it extending to 'their' station, often aided by local authorities and MPs 'campaigning' for it. Extension of contactless often comes with...
