    Caledonian Sleeper

As noted above, the seats aren't in use and I doubt walk-up berth fares would be entertained in the current climate with a lot of the services running with high occupancy. Also, at its scheduled departure time, 1S25 was still south of Stafford, so it'd have been pretty straightforward to check...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Skipping Crewe wasn't an accident, though - required planning/co-ordination from CS Control, GB Control, NR Control, the driver and the Train Manager, as did other arrangements to give it as clear a run as possible and leave Preston on time. Weather was appalling too, so not exactly ideal...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Not sure what would tempt them? As above, six would appear to be sufficient (supplemented by 66s if needed) and each conversion costs a lot of money and takes a long time to do (not like it'd roll out of Brush next week ready to start repaying the investment). Also as mentioned previously, not...

Yes, 47727 worked one 1S25/1M16 return trip with 73971 on 8th November (2019). The following day S25/M16 ran with a solo 73/9. Enough said about the 47's contribution to proceedings on that particular foray to Inverness!

    Caledonian Sleeper

I think there's been one - out of several hundred workings. The six or seven figure sum in converting a seventh would hardly be justified for the 0.1% of times one might be required. Unsurprisingly, the people who do this for a living rather than commentate from the armchair (with a blank...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Technically correct. However, the other five used on the Network Rail trains are not identical to the six Sleeper ones (even before Dellners / CAF mods are factored in). Driving controls are also different and a driver who signs 966-971 would need to separately learn 961-965 (and vice versa).

    There are six.

Charters, loco/stock moves, Royal Scotsman occasionally, hauled the odd freight train as Thunderbirds in their time.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Aside from the other flaws already pointed out (i.e. 7x 92s and 4x 73/9s required each night for a start) GB Railfreight are contracted to provide the traction and drivers for the Sleepers for a set amount. GB then have the number of locos available they believe they need to meet the...

    Caledonian Sleeper

@6Z09 is correct - currently it's 2x 73/9s on each of the Fort William and Inverness portions (or a 66 + 73/9 on the Inverness as it is this week). In "normal times" you're correct in that it's usually 1x 73/9 each on the Fort Bill and Aberdeen and 2x 73/9s on the Inverness, however can be 2x...

Wires down on Up Main due to a fallen tree. It was alongside Kingmoor Yard, so 1M12 diverted via the yard. Went via wired roads - no loco swap required. All 92023’s good work.

    Caledonian Sleeper

As of this Saturday morning just gone, it’s no longer a rail replacement bus/coach (RRB). Trains are back running albeit via Fife/Ladybank (so some intermediate stations aren’t served). As far as I’m aware the RRBs conveyed all the various accompaniments passengers had with them last week, but...

Except the seats (and lounge) are currently out of use due to Covid-19 restrictions. Will be like that until at least 31 August, then to be reviewed after that.

    Caledonian Sleeper

The Fort William portion is currently Load 6 right the way through from/to Euston, ie Seats, Lounge, 1x PRM sleeper, 3x sleepers. No coaches added/subtracted at Waverley.

It is indeed - out again today I believe.

    Caledonian Sleeper

There are no Load 16s currently - they're running as either Load 14 or Load 8. A revised/uplifted timetable has been in operation since mid-July, with two trains running in each direction - one to Inverness and Fort William and the other to Edinburgh, i.e. no services to Aberdeen or Glasgow...

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

You can now enter GBRf loco numbers in "Quick Search" in RTT and it'll show up if it's allocated to a working. Also trialling for it to show up with the last working it was on too, so you get an idea where it is if not actually on the move. It's currently on the Rylstone/Daircoates/Arcow circuit.

New homes for ex-Caledonian Sleeper Mark 2 and 3 stock

6701 is the one at Brodie’s in Kilmarnock - being converted into staff offices/messroom I think. 6708 is now owned by LSL (bought, not leased from ERS). It’s the very swanky Hippocrene Bar in The Statesman stock. Refurbed by Independent Rail Services. 6705 is, I believe, also LSL-bound via a...

New homes for ex-Caledonian Sleeper Mark 2 and 3 stock

At the time you saw them back in May, the following LSL Mk3s were at the SVR: 10504 / 10513 / 10519 / 10520 / 10648 / 10650 / 10675 / 10683 10520 returned to Crewe on 28 May and is now in a very smart blood and custard livery.
