Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

The term, "Good Service" meaning public transport (particularly trains) are running normally, what happened to just using "Normal Service", as good service is quite ambiguas, the term Good Service seems to have been first started by TFL early 2000s to describe latest Tube running updates.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

That's the issue at Euston, the platforms are well away from the concourse, so you can't see the trains until you get to the ramp down to the platform, & it's not helped that trains are often called minutes before departure, so leads to some passengers panicking thinking they're going to miss...

People who've never been to London

I go to London a couple of times a year, mostly to travel on the TFL network, but couldn't live there, mostly as it takes an hour to get anywhere (by road at least), the Tube & Rail networks are rammed particularly in the peaks, then add in the cost of living in London, beer prices around £7 -...

Has public transport ever run on Christmas and Boxing day?

Merseyside, has buses on Christmas Day for the last 20 years, & has buses on Boxing Day too, Boxing Day bus services normally based on a Sunday service. Merseyside this year, Boxing Day bus services have been greatly reduced though. Merseyrail started operating Boxing Day services a couple...

    Airport "public transport" tax

The coach station at Heathrow has barriers at the stands now, & theirs always someone at the stand checking tickets from those alighting the coach.

    Euston to Liverpool 06/12/2023

AWC peak departures from Euston are 15.01 to 18.44, the OPs son was using an off peak ticket, so as daft as it sounds, the off peak ticket wouldn't have been valid on the 18.43.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

I've waited at Euston on the platforms before, mostly for LNWR services, for AWC i tend to wait on the ramp by the doors, using a combo of Traksy & Realtime Trains to watch out for any last minute platform changes

(Reasonable) Features you'd like to see implemented on RailUK Forums

Seems this is one of the few forums now & again the spam bots get through, & it's always in the middle of the night, you know it straight away through the weird thread titles like, hj, & then starts threads in a foreign language, which looks like in Chinese or Japanese, just reported one posting...

    Airport "public transport" tax

Not only rail, but Heathrow has surcharges for coach routes too. The Greenline 724 used to have the surcharge for Heathrow passengers too, was £10 adult single, but i see that's part of the £2 fare cap scheme.

    Xmas (Winter Festival) timetables 2023

For those of us that do have bus services on Christmas Eve & New Years Eve, it's a normal Sunday service with early finish (my area Wirral last buses are between 7pm & 8pm). Are their any areas that are running a normal Sunday evening service, & not finishing early?

Trivia: First and last journeys on a service

I can't remember if i've ever been on the first & last service of a route, but i have been on routes on the first & last day of operation, most notably the 25th, 26th October 1986 (deregulation), 25th the last day Merseyside PTE operated buses (some routes withdrawn & have never returned), then...

Career change to bus driver - Kendal

Depends why type of routes you want to drive too, & watch out for driver change over locations as well. Morecambe has routes that take well over an hour. Morecambe depot is on an industrial estate half way between Morecambe Town Centre & Lancaster City Centre, so it will involve a lot of dead...

Staff duty travel passes - is their usage monitored?

I found that thread easily enough in the search function, & here is that thread https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/misuse-of-spouse-travel-pass.212057/

Career change to bus driver - Kendal

I think the pay disparity could well be Morecambe has more trunk routes, including routes to & from Lancaster University, with longer operating hours, Kendal has only local routes & the 555, so Morecambe could be the more profitable depot than Kendal because of this.

Has the BBC lost the plot?

Angus Deayton was sacked over continuing scandals about his private life, which involved drugs & prostitutes, the episode after Angus Deayton's private life hit the headlines was hilarious, Paul Merton was hilarious too on that episode, but fresh allegations were made during the next series, &...

Career change to bus driver - Kendal

Another thing you have to watch out for is shift patterns, you might be rostered to finish late one week, then have couple of days off, & rostered to start early & so on. I know someone who got a job driving buses some 15 years ago, (was First Crosville, from Rock Ferry Depot) his shift pattern...

Career change to bus driver - Kendal

Depends what depot is operating the routes. At Kendal the earliest bus is around 5.30am, which is the 555 Lancaster - Keswick. The full route takes 3 hours, but I think the shift pattern on the 555 is Kendal to Lancaster, Lancaster to Keswick then Keswick to Kendal or vice versa. Most Kendal...

    Simsig North London Line?

Their are many reasons why obsolete sims are completely withdrawn, not being compatible with the system will be the main reason.

Has the BBC lost the plot?

Question Of Sport (QoS) has been dreadful for years now, trying too hard morphing into They Think It's All Over, A League Of Their Own, style shows which QoS never was. QoS needs to get back to the format that it was it's heyday which was, Picture Board, Home or Away, Action Round, What...
