High fares - The issue that won't go away

Quite. The No it wouldn’t it would, if done properly, empower Network Rail to do a much much better job of working its supply chain to achieve a vastly better result at a lower cost. There is hardly an example out there of Network Rail achieving anything other than abject failure in achieving...

    Where are the ticket inspectors?

I don’t see the relevance. A guard can still get though plenty of carriages and to the next door. There will the odd one where there are too many people or where overcrowding means there are more important things to focus on like safety, but there are tonnes of journeys or sections where that...

    Where are the ticket inspectors?

    No need. Both gated.

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

And part of both is how well informed they are by the seller about the options before they consider the options

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

And label all the options honestly and transparently and release the options at the sane time, rather than trying to manipulate everything to the nth degree.

Advance tickets and non working toilets

If one did object my reply would be very short and sweet. When your company can be bothered to run trains with functioning toilets, I can be bothered to keep to the ticketing restrictions. The same applies to AC and lighting in my mind. Fine, run the train but don’t expect people to have to...

    Where are the ticket inspectors?

I remember being very surprised when I moved down south that guards seem to be able to get away with not doing any ticket inspections giving them plenty of time to play with whereas guards on northern were not just inspecting but also selling. They are also vastly more visible within the...

    Where are the ticket inspectors?

I have definitely noticed an increase in bumping across the tube network. Often with gate line staff looking on not reacting. In contrast the gate line staff at Euston, EMT St P, Standsted Airport and Manchester Piccadilly can make you feel like a criminal for daring to: - turn up at all - turn...

    Where are the ticket inspectors?

I actually think they should put more random ticket inspections on. Whilst I vehemently disagree with the level of some fares and the recent behaviour of some TOCs, I also don’t like the fact I suspect plenty of the usual suspects are learning the trick of buying a short journey ticket to get a...

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

So why bother trying to get rid of the ones that are left. It doesn’t sound like they create a big deal. It really does seem to confirm the real reason is to remove the effective cap, resulting in peak travel becoming the preserve of people who are very well off or have a company paying it...

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

I don’t know a lot about him but I really do get the feeling Peter Hendry is about to be a significant part of the problem, especially when paired with the DfT which loves to mis-fire regularly. We need the opposite for the launch of GBR. Is part of the reason LNER love advances bought through...

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

That would be an argument to not give Edinburgh London tickets first dibs but Starmill is saying they do. I don’t really think anybody should get first dibs on any flow. I am only saying that if there must be any first dibs it should be restricted to only exclude those for journeys that can...

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

Highly unsatisfactory, like lots of things on LNER these days. Next they will only allow more expensive tickets to sit over the bogies.

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

But why do the Edinburgh London passengers not get first dibs on any ticket type? (Ignore the stupid trial for the purposes of the point)

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

I actually think the cheaper seats should be getting the cheaper view. So the quota should be set to sell the seats with no view first, unless that service is historically never full.

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

There is no reason not to allow them to be bought when the window opens. There are lots of reasons you might want to be sure you have a ticket. For instance if you are planning to go to an event in London or elsewhere and you are buying an expensive ticket for that and want to square up travel...

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

They are clearly not getting it right if they are over filling trains with cheaper advances and then turning away customers who are willing to pay the higher off peak fare (but probably not the higher trial simpler rip off advance fare or the anytime). If the off peaks trains are as busy as...

    Thameslink code rather than etickets

Seems a bit of a silly anomaly on the part of the National network that has largely gone paperless first but I guess there is no way around it if the TfL gate lines can’t accept an e-ticket? Won’t bother buying via trainline anymore then.

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

There is. The terms and conditions of an off peak return are a lot more flexible. There might be plenty of reasons why you want to book early but with off peak flexibility.

    Thameslink code rather than etickets

It was Herne Hill to Stevenage. It doesn’t involve an underground transfer. Is it because you could in theory travel via an underground route?
