Could we see additional services once improvements are made in the Huddersfield area?

I will thanks! I was thinking of the TPE route via WCML :) We also seem to have got into the habit of calling trains that don't actually go that fast 'Express' in the UK. A la.... - Stansted Express (just slow) - Gatwick Express (couple of mins quicker than normal Southern service) -...

Could we see additional services once improvements are made in the Huddersfield area?

Cabin fever thoughts. -Is there anything transpennine about Manchester to Edinburgh? -I have never seen a map that completely defines the extent of the Pennines with a clear boundary. - 'Trans' means across. Is a route 'Transpennine' if it crosses a single Pennine hill? Perhaps something that...

Underground station closures and service reductions

As per the title really! There are clearly too many people too close together on the remaining services. This could be because TfL have pared back services too much or because too many non-essential journeys are happening. What should TfL do, add more services, restrict access (how?) or...

Halifax redevelopment: could there be opportunities to improve or expand the station?

Is there anyway of telling how many delays are caused by the current layout at Halifax? There is quite a mix of services and destinations calling here and I would have thought the argument is a little like Platforms 13/14 at Manchester Picc but on a lesser scale. An extra platform at Halifax...

TPE Nova 1 Class 802/2 Progress

I did chat Moss on a 802 the other week on a Durham - Lime Street and didn't find it too bad, although frustratingly slow for such a straight bit of track. What is the perceived problem...bendy track as built on stilts? My journey was the first proper intercity experience on this line in my...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

So are we saying that the same manufacturer offers the same train but with a diesel electric option that would have easily allowed conversion to batteries/hydrogen fuel cell etc? Is the diesel electric also true bi-mode itself already in that is can run on diesel or the overhead wires? If so...

Northern Unit Refurbishments and depot allocations.

I think the black seat frame is a big mistake. Really darkens the interior.

Should Government designate Northern a decarbonisation R&D franchise?

Yes, we could improve options for hardly any money whatsoever with massive investment in bike parking, and no that is not a contradiction in terms. Compared to car parking massive investment in bike parking is cheap as chips. Take my regular haunts. Herne Hill, Brixton, Paddington, Victoria...

Kings Cross ‘uncrossed’ Layout/Remodelling - Information and Updates

Am I right in thinking a train from Platform 0 has quite a bit more crossing over to do to get to the up fast in the new layout? If so, does the new layout mean certain platforms will be favoured over others for heavier use? I have never managed to spot a partucular pattern of platform use for...

Newspaper article Yorkshire post northern rail new stock mention. Tuesday 3 March

Would it not be sensible for Northern to be allocated the EMT 158's as part of that deal?

I presume reforming the 365's as 5/6 car units is a no go?

Should Government designate Northern a decarbonisation R&D franchise?

Moderator note: split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/porterbrook-cl-769-flex-trains-from-319s-initially-for-northern.138660/ Rather than give out piecemeal grants and having the odd piecemeal micro-fleet, it might be a good idea for the Government to designate Northern a...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

The track on that video looks to be in a bit of a state. Is that the Southport line and is that pretty poor track or just a trick of the light/camera angle etc?

    Coronavirus.

How serious could this be for the operation of the railways? The obvious one is staff shortages if staff are asked to self-isolate. What other problems/measures do forum members think might result from a more general outbreak in the UK? Are there any defined protocols for this type of situation?

    East Coast Trains Ltd

When you consider TPE Leeds to Edinburgh, Hull Trains London to Hull and this new service you sort of end up with First a second full scale 'franchise' on the ECML. It isn't much of a leap to imagine a First East Coast brand/website etc.
