Though with Kingston upon Thames, there's the complicating factor that it includes quite a major station on its own fringes. What's the fastest train to/from Surbiton - does it get any services which are even remotely intercity in character?
Well if there's one good thing - if I can moan against it anyone can. I'm currently enjoying my penultimate trip out of the year, sat in a pub in safely Tory Chippenham - and everyone in here has questioned his judgement.
It's just ridiculous though.
I'm an undergraduate statistician - so there are hundreds of thousands better than me - and I can question the data better these journalists. That shouldn't be the case!
Honest question - if I walk a long way out of my city, can I get a bus back? Is that allowed?
When I was in the initial lockdown, I was stuck at home either way, but now I'm stuck for a month in a city that I hate...
Which means, unfortunately, it probably isn't going to last a month. It'll quite possibly be three or four, because I can't see this going before the winter's over.
So as a 21 year old, I do love your idea. If the government gave me a grand, I'd be ridiculously happy (as would several bus companies and train operators, and many pubs across the country).
However, it wouldn't be practicable to have restrictions for over 25s but nothing for those under 25...
I think it's because masks are so much more politicised over there. The Republicans despise them, so the Democrats seem to have decided to go as far as possible the other way. I've found that a lot of them view masks with an almost religious fervour, and quite a lot want them to become...
I wouldn't rule a vaccine out just yet. There are signs results from some of the main trials could finally be coming soon, and we've bought a huge stock of various types, so if one works, we'll probably be alright.
What worries me more is how it gets distributed - no doubt that very lucrative...
See also the 69/620, which works through from Bath to Stroud via Yate. The displays say "Old Sodbury for Stroud".
I believe the 69 is subsidised by Gloucestershire county and the 620 by South Gloucestershire unitary, though you'd think the routes would change over at Yate, Chipping Sodbury, or...
My exemption isn't due to panic attacks either - I've just found that face coverings make them much worse unfortunately.
Re the rest of your point, I agree. I actually think masks are probably the best tool we have for herd immunity - because they probably increase the number of infections but...
It's more complicated than that.
I'm in a sixth category - I'm technically exempt, but wear one wherever possible to avoid the hassle. The only times I've removed one were where I was having quite a bad panic attack and the covering was making it much worse.
I don't believe they work (for...
I fail to see how making masks mandatory everywhere is somehow better than Tier 3 restrictions, and indeed the fact it's even being mentioned as an idea is incredibly concerning.
It would also defeat the point of the tiers system - why move to a system like this designed to standardise...
A lot depends on how you define county, and how you define serves.
Take the X5, for example. This route runs from Oxford to Bedford (traditionally it continued to Cambridge, but it has been curtailed).
This certainly serves Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Bedfordshire. But Milton Keynes is...
I know Jeremy Vine is increasingly opposed to restrictions (on twitter at least), and I believe he's on around this time of day on Radio 2. So some of it may have been down to the presenter.
When it comes to masks, the evidence is looking quite strong that they reduce viral load. They probably don't reduce transmission (indeed some research suggests they may increase it), but if the people getting it off me only get a mild dose, they'll probably be alright.
I find wearing one...
I've only ever seen "then" on the handful of journeys which are registered as three separate routes. For example, I seem to recall the X93 (Middlesbrough - Scarborough) used to display "Guisborough for Whitby then Scarborough". I could be wrong but I believe that is one of the main uses for "then".
I believe restrictions are decided at a district level. Barrow has Tier 2 but Carlisle is still Tier 1 despite them being in the same county, likewise for Elmbridge vs Guildford or Coventry vs Birmingham. Granted, in North Yorkshire some of the districts are pretty huge (Hambleton might be the...
