Oxford to Bicester outside the peak. The train fare is £3.50 single or £3.60 for a day return, whereas the bus is £4.40 single or £5.50 return (and for completeness, peak train fares are £5.20 and £5.80 respectively).
I am reasonably confident there are a few on the Durham Coast, but Go North...
Though Bath and North East Somerset only goes in Tier 2. That's the right call based on the rates there, but is strange given that Keynsham is far more intertwined with Bristol than anywhere in North Somerset (whose urban areas are all further away).
Unfortunately, the timings don't work that well - the X60 to Aylesbury generally leaves at xx:45 (and the 150 is even worse, at xx:09). Considering the journey will take longer that way, there'd be no time saving.
Incidentally, while a walk across Oxford is probably inevitable, you can reduce...
It's a fringe view here, but seems more common in the US. A lot of people like Fauci seem to genuinely think masks and social distancing should continue even after a vaccine is distributed.
He is extremely pro-mask, even wanting them mandatory outdoors.

Then again, the whole thing is far more political over...
I've bought that ticket (albeit for 75p with railcard discount). I was visiting the area and wanted. It was cheaper to have a bus day ticket (which I'd used all the way from Coventry) and that single fare than to buy a multimodal day ticket.
As for the main topic of the thread, Bicester Village...
I can't see it happening, not for a long time. After all, if you're young and healthy, there's no chance that the NHS will be vaccinating you, not for many months yet. So such a policy would mean huge swathes of society would only be open to those who pay to go private. The optics of that are...
I've read that SAGE think we'd need five days of harsh restrictions for every day of relaxation. Like you say, it would be nice to have a normal Christmas, but it isn't worth it if it means a month of full lockdown, with all the misery that would cause.
Fully agree with this. The lack of balance is incredibly frustrating.
I had the misfortune of listening to an interview with Neil Ferguson last night, and he thinks we need somewhere between the old Tier 2 and Tier 3 after the 2nd of December to avoid cases rising, and that any easing over...
In theory I agree, and indeed that was the approach taken in Leicester way back in July. It'd be especially useful in large unitary authorities such as Northumberland, where one part of the authority is very urban and has very high rates, and the other part is much more rural and has...
I suspect Falkirk will be in much the same boat - other than the Kincardine Bridge, it's entirely surrounded by areas in Tier 4 (Stirling, West Lothian, and North Lanarkshire).
Obviously if it works, that's a good thing, and it's a good example of ingenuity. I do have concerns about the cost, which seems to be £1 a pop, particularly because they seem to be only in disposable form. I still firmly believe that if people are going to be encouraged to wear coverings we...
I'm genuinely stunned that Aylesbury hasn't been mentioned yet.
A textbook example of underground bus stations being appalling. Its main redeeming feature is how central it is.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this. I hate seeing people wearing masks, especially outdoors. In Oxford it's particularly bad and getting to the point where more people wear them outside than don't. I find that totally dispiriting.
What terrifies me is that there seem to be some...
A direct Oxford (or Banbury) - Bristol service would be nice, and has been proposed a few times. I believe the issue there is lack of paths between Didcot and Swindon.
A (pro-lockdown) Conservative MP cited the fact that she had found 55% support for lockdown in her constituency in the Commons debate earlier. Bearing in mind she represents an area which has an older demographic and has a relatively high number of cases, I find it difficult to believe the...
Good idea for a thread. I'm no expert and all three of these ideas could be huge flops, but I think these are some routes which could do well, especially given population shifts and changes in why people travel (with leisure becoming relatively more important as work from home rises).
Firstly...
If he's only planning to travel within the Network Day Tripper area, he could buy a return from Redditch to Longbridge, since that is the first station in the zone. The total cost (assuming travel is off-peak) would be £6.90 + £4.70 = £11.60.
