So from what I gather the new entrance did not open at the end of the year as planned, and will now open 'early in 2023'.
Anyone have any info, concrete or speculative, on when it may actually open? It seems from photos I saw on Twitter it's externally complete, but I'm sure there may still be...
Apparently another option is to just have unflanged middle wheels, so they can slide around on the railhead. Potentially an unflanged wheel could lose contact altogether on tight radius curves, but that's unlikely to be a location where you need to get all the power down anyway.
Thanks!
This diagram from that document shows exactly what I was asking and also seems to confirm what I thought, that there is axial/lateral play required.
Still interested to learn how power is transferred to these middle axles when they are displaced. Particularly in past times with steam...
This might be a slightly basic question for those of you who actually work on rolling stock but I've not been able to figure it out from Googling.
Looking at the Class 99, I see it will be built in Co-Co formation with bogies that have 6 wheels.
Now, I'm familiar with how train wheels are...
One I'm wondering about is whether it's made a difference to the DLR's Lewisham and Woolwich branches which can be very busy in the mornings - although in fairness I haven't been out that way in the peak since before the pandemic so I'm not sure how it has recovered. Many who changed at Woolwich...
Why can't they use Old Kew Junction to reverse trains? Is it felt that a service from Kew Bridge to Waterloo via Hounslow & Twickenham would just not be worth it?
Several ways:
The 345s are significantly longer than most of the trains they replaced
33% frequency uplift on the GEML once the service pattern is complete (12tph peak to 16tph peak including the rush hour services)
50% frequency uplift on the GWML (roughly 8tph peak service will go to 12tph)...
I believe they were also trialling 'body recognition' algorithms plugged in to the CCTV cameras on busses to track passenger numbers, I don't know if this made it on to the tube/EL though.
Also the Class 345 trains have carriage weight sensors that can give an idea of passenger loading with the...
There's a barbers in the Western Arcade at London Bridge, as well as a cobbler.
Not within the barriers, but very much within the station. Proper old school!
Difficult one to figure out given tube use is still only at 80% of the pre-pandemic levels
Still, I'd wager some Elizabeth Line use is induced demand. I know many people who are suddenly much keener to visit Stratford or Canary Wharf on the weekends at least, who would have stayed in their own...
In addition to the breakdown, the platform information screens seemed to be down at both Liverpool Street and Whitechapel which added a lot to customer frustrations.
Adding new services to the GEML has to be coordinated with the National Rail timetable change, Dec is too soon, but some might be brought in at the May change? Also the wait times at Westbourne Park on the GWML. Plus a few 345s are still in 7 car configuration waiting to be lengthened meaning...
