I think the ‘right card’ requirement varies between TOCs and is under their control. I once had to collect a sleeper ticket without the correct card. It refused me. When I phoned they simply removed the requirement and two minutes later I got the ticket using a different card. Interesting eh?

I was so tempted to nick one of those tartan blankets near the end of Scotrail’s tenure. Would have been a very practical souvenir. I took a picture of one instead. I still wonder what happened to them.

Thanks for the responses. I fear the new seated coach will manage to be less comfortable than the current MkII, so I’ll be using the old stock as long as possible.

I would like to run an informal poll among users of the seated sleeper, hope that’s ok. If you were travelling around the time the new stock is being introduced, which would you pick? 1 Give me one more trip on the old stock. 2 Can’t wait, let me try the new stock.

The same green British Rail crockery everywhere. Actually quite nice stuff, practical and well designed. Marked as Vitrified Tableware by Dudson Brothers. Sleeping cars had racks of it in the attendant's compartment where it would vibrate throughout the night with a pleasant chinking sound.

The 16-25 railcard is the nearest we have to a national railcard for single people. If it's important enough to you, it's not too difficult to become a mature student for the purpose of applying for the card.

There is, however, a requirement for the two people to have their photographs printed on the card.

Another vote for 'this site is no longer usable with Safari on my iPad' which is a shame because it's iPad for reading and desktop for working, which is what I'm using to post this. ISP is Plusnet and other forums are working normally. I do hope it can be fixed.
