Trivia: Longest Cul-de-sac single line (with no loops, connections or sidings)

Fraction over 10 miles, so shorter than Kirkham to Blackpool South! Very hopeful that both lines will get passing loops in the next decade (or century )

WCML overhead wire problems 22 July 2019

Just seen rumbling through Leyland about 1655 southbound full ballast working hauled by a 66, with a 37, 68 and another 66 in tow! Presume the extra locos were being moved due to the disruption. Had just got off the 1605 Victoria-Preston on the down fast when it went through on the up slow, so...

    Railways and golf courses

Ansdell & Fairhaven is just next to Royal Lytham & St Annes, another Open venue. (Senior Open is there in a couple of weeks time). Because the Blackpool South line was singled in the 1980s with no loops, when the Open is on a shuttle runs half hourly from Preston (usually the RES platform) to...

Fort William boarding due to start at 1920; still nothing from CS as to whether any of the portions are affected tonight. Actually total silence from CS about what's running since 11 hours ago. Have they given up trying to explain away yet another shambles?

The FW portion is due in at 1357 240 late. It was held at Rannoch nearly an hour waiting for the southbound ScotRail service. The Aberdeen portion has just made it into Dundee a mere 452 late. Words fail me....

Looks like it's still stuck there? Total silence from CS about the delays since they posted 6 hours ago about the signal issue. Bound to be problems tonight southbound due to the late arrivals. Turning into Black Friday MkII

Northbound Highlander left 86L delayed at depot having to remove defective coach. Then delayed near Penrith by signal fault currently 173L (Inverness), 170L FW, 168L ABD. Likely to be a late departure tonight as crews will be out of rest hours etc

    Northern Class 195: Construction/Introduction Updates

Yes it's easy to forget how long the 156/158s have been around, just over 30 years for the 156s and just under 30 for the 158s. Good analogy with cars. The mid range car of today compared to 30 years ago doesn't bear thinking about how much the technology has moved forward, likewise for the...

Yes, quite a few photos have turned up... The guests on tonight's marathon coach journey to Dumbarton could be forgiven for asking why the FW coaches couldn't have been tagged on as well!

ECS working from Polmadie to Wembley on it's way as well http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O18148/2019/06/30/advanced Only 140 tonnes trailing load though so may not be the empties to work north tonight? Fort William working hasn't left yet though according to RTT (as at 1152)

    Caledonian Sleeper

Sounds about right! So that's a power/weight ration of 4.85 per tonne. Class 156 weighs in at around 71.6 tonnes with 570hp, so that's 7.96 per tonne by comparison

    Caledonian Sleeper

Rubbish indeed sir, 1600hp for 4 Mk3s and 2 Mk2s plus the weight of the loco chugging up from Loch Treig to Corrour. Locos can fail anytime, a 67 failed at Dalwhinnie in May southbound, at least on that occasion the stock was brought back to Wembley for the northbound run that evening.

Northbound they are running a replacement coach from, wait for it, Euston to Dumbarton FFS.... The excuse is the stock is out of position. They've got 24+ hours to get one lot of stock to Euston and one lot to Fort Bill to get back on track. Too easy for CS to just give up like this. Mattheson...
