Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

Not sure you whether you intended it WB, but I think you've hit the nail on the head. He does think he knows the rules and guidance better than the rest of us! Durham Old Bill are fully investigating on the orders of the Police Commissioner and I'm coming to the conclusion the best outcome...

Dominic Cummings alleged breach of lockdown rules discussion

Shame none of the journalists at yesterday's news conference had that in front of them...especially this bit - "Overall, the majority of people are adhering to the guidance, however there are a few who still seem to think this doesn’t apply to them." IMHO the trip to Barnard Castle was a...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Not sure what was going on last night with 1S25 as RTT is showing the Glasgow portion as running from Edinburgh https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/M12489/2020-05-21/detailed 1M16 appears to have been cancelled as well between Edinburgh and Euston. Not a good night for CS, though doubt...

Best fish & chips near a station?

Changed name to Fryer Tux a few years ago. Not been since it changed!

Best fish & chips near a station?

I'd recommend the Jolly Fryer, about 5 min walk from Burneside station. Fish cooked to order, always fresh

Largest Station reduced to almost a 1 platform Halt

Windermere went from 4 to 1. I read somewhere including the sidings etc there were 14 lines in total at the peak

How the Hobby has changed over the Decades

Yes it's made so much difference (positive!) having the likes of RTT at the push of a button when waiting at the lineside! As for us enthusiasts, we've got a lot older! Very rare now to see youngsters at the platform end compared to the early 1980s; most of us seem to be 50+ (myself included...

World's Most Scenic Railways - new Channel 5 series

Realtimetrains.co.uk show the HST services as "diesel loco...trailing load 324 tons" whereas the 170's or occasional 158 operated services they show the unit number. Not been up there since RTT started showing the specific unit so can't vouch for how accurate they are, or whether the traction...

Restoring Your Railway Fund: what ideas would you suggest?

To think people mock the idea of reopening Tweedbank to Carlisle  Seriously though, good to see the Burscough Curves in there and Skipton-Colne.

Your experiences of unbelievable rolling stock diagram allocations (past and present)

I remember a 158 turning up in peak time on a Birmingham to Four Oaks cross city working, just before electrification went live. Seem to remember it just about kept time on the road, but lost time at the stations

    Ticket barrier question

Happened to me a few times. Damned annoying as it makes it look like you're using an invalid ticket :frown: From memory, 2 separate occasions at Leeds (both out and in) when using a North West Rover ticket. Display showed "not valid at this station" or suchlike, which is false. Chalfont &...

Trivia: Stations with surviving run-around loops?

Yes it normally runs boiler end first (ie the "normal" way round) from Fort Wiiliam to Mallaig then returns tender first. From memory the speed limit for the steam specials are 40mph max both ways, with some slower stretches.

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Does anyone know when the 5 coach sets will appear or has this been quietly shelved? Shame Scotrail didn't keep all the 170s released by EGIP to strengthen most if not all the GLA/EDI - ADB/INV services to double 170s as a stop gap before ordering new units (802s?)

    Coldest UK railway station

Spent plenty of time at Oxenholme as a youngster to know how cold it is. Adding "The Lake District" didn't make it any warmer, or drier

I like to think it's nearly a third of the Waverley Line.... Now if Skipton-Colne was in Scotland, I would add another 20% to the probability :E
