Whilst it's great to see such ambition for the railways, I can't help but feel the plans are more of a wish list than realistic plans, especially when the COVID bills hit the mat.
In England we need to put more pressure on DaFT to raise their game in England....electrification planned from...
119 dead confirmed today. Monday's figures are always lower due to delays in reporting deaths over the weekend.
By comparison Monday 20/7 there were 12 deaths and Tuesday 21/7 there were 110.
So 4 more deaths Mon/Tues this week than last. Is this fading?
If only....
Despite last week's announcement, I'd have a little bet on electric trains reaching Inverness and/or Aberdeen (under their own "steam" before some smart Alec points out the Azumas!) before Leeds to Manchester is finished
Plans are certainly ambitious, but what's wrong with having...
The Spain quarantine debacle shows up again what a farce the masks decision was. If quarantine can be introduced at a few hours notice, then why did masks need 10 days notice if they were "so vital"?
A few more observations since I last posted, generally similar to what others have seen eg lots...
Totally agree. It's either safe or it isn't.
1 essential food shop a week for me and anything else online until the masks go.
As an aside, BBC North West Tonight were filming at Piccadilly earlier in the week mid morning. Staff aside, it was deserted. This can't go on

Just had a look through the regulations.
Boris said it would be over by Christmas (which one?)....so for the Christmas crackers....
"What type of shop is specifically exempted from the mask requirements?"
"A knocking shop"
Only in Boris's Britain
We did our weekly big Tesco shop today instead of tomorrow to beat the masks. I didn't go around counting everyone, but mask wearers guestimate around 10-15%, which tallies with what others have said today. Saw 1 staff member inside the shop wearing a mask (plus the chap at the entrance with a...
We didn't have to wear masks in March/April when the virus was rampant. Now it's (we pray permanently) in decline we have to wear them. Shows up the lack of joined up thinking from Boris and his cronies.
I will not be travelling on any public transport (unless it's a personal emergency) until...
Newtonmore could do with going back to 2 platforms, or at least reinstating the loop.
It's a pain if things are running late that long single track section from Kingussie to Dalwhinnie
I saw a photo recently on a local Facebook page showing the last running of the Barrow-London sleeper in May 1990; it had a mail van as the first "coach".
Cummings has sat in on several SAGE meetings (that's another story) and attended countless meetings with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Scientific Advisor et al, and will have heard vastly more detail about the spread or potential for spreading the virus than nearly everyone else in the...
