Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2 & 3

But equally does make them look a little cheap. And a lot of white can look fairly garish in sunlight. Darker colours have a splash of style and class to them. That's why a lot of apps and digital "things" have "dark mode" - give it a few years and it'll be enabled by default. Not sure how...

EMR Class 180s - Set Routes / Times?

Are the EMR Class 180s allocated to specific diagrams every day? If so, does anyone know what these may be? Don't fancy waiting around for one to turn up.

    Cross Country's Class 221 to 220 - Technical Differences?

Thanks everyone. In theory, could the 221's have the 220 bogie fitted?

Shortest Journey in Time on the New Anglia Units from London?

Does anyone know what the shortest journey I can make is, starting from Liverpool Street on the new Anglia units? I was thinking the Airport but there must be something closer? Just want to sample them for a quick 10/20 mins or so.

    Cross Country's Class 221 to 220 - Technical Differences?

Apart from the tilting mechanism, are there any other technical differences? As and when Avanti give up their 221s, there is a strong possibility they'll go to Cross Country. At a guess, they'll isolate the tilt mechanically by removing certain parts like they did with the last 221s (as far as...

    WMT Class 730 unveiled

The depots seem to cope well with the current 6-car configuration. Or are you saying all are split before heading off? And now read what I wrote :P ...from a passenger / driver perspective. I am well aware cab ends are operationally very flexible but you also create work as some units have...

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

Over the weekend. Nothing has been running this week so far... Can't say source, sorry.

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

No. They're ALL "grounded" until further notice. CaF investigating.

    WMT Class 730 unveiled

Which makes you wonder why they didn't just make it easier / better / nicer from a passenger/Driver point of view and build 6-car units with full cab ends.

    Religious tolerance

Do you have an example of this online? As above - do you have any sources for this? A church that actively promotes gun use? Bearing in mind the amount of churches that there are out there, I suspect the number that have "turned it into a business" is quite small. Some churches are businesses...

    HST VP185 Engine Replacements

Hello As I understand it, all HSTs were originally Valenta engines. FGW tested an MTU engine, which most other operators chose as their replacements but Midland Mainline went for a Paxman VP185 version instead. Was it Midland Mainline that ordered / started fitting these engines? Or had the...

Apprentice Train Driver - Crosscountry - Multiple Locations (09/02/2021)

It's also about fatigue management. The limit for most TOCs is an hour to the booking on point. There have been a growing number of RAIB reports where fatigue comes into it (buffer stops crash at Kings Cross springs to mind). I'm certain the EU was thinking about including commuting time as...

Bordesley Station (Birmingham) - How to revive its fortunes?

Which is very difficult to do... hence Polesworth and it's 96 passengers still getting some sort of service and still being open.

    Class 66 Mirrors

Can any one tell me more about mirrors on the Class 66 and why some have them, others don't and what they're all about? There seems to be little information online.

Doors opened wrong side at Wigan

Not sure whether we should be suggesting that leaning on a door should be okay though? Even if it is "locked" - I'd never lean on a door while a train (or aeroplane) is in motion. Reading through, there seems to be a lot of "what if's" here too. It's highly unlikely that a whole set of...

Why didn't we categorise DMUs built in the 1990s as "third generation"?

There's an obvious split between 1st generation DMU's and the rest. I guess the turning point was the 14x and above. But why was the 165 (and newer) not classed as 3rd generation DMU? And the latest trains built after the Meridians named as the 4th generation?

Doors opened wrong side at Wigan

And anyone who could look up those details can do so with out the departure time of the train too so it doesn't really matter from that point of view. The log contains the headcode and time anyway. There will be some procedure but in this case, no doors were operated by anyone on the train so...

The future of "in branch" banking.

I'm in complete favour of branches being closed. HOWEVER - banks must start being more flexible to what they offer through apps / online. Everything I can do through the online banking portal, I should be able to do through the app (to be honest, I think I can now). But if I want to open a...
