    Five Bus Pile Up-Manchester

Hope everyone involved is ok. Love the media tho - doesn't look like much of a "pile-up"...

    Winchester - Nottingham

I am being a bit slow today - just went to the East Coast website in a moment of confusion... Thanks for those options, think I might stick with London to avoid the bus!

    Winchester - Nottingham

Sorry yes it's for travel this weekend. Bit of a late decision but might get lucky with the advances and winter sales.

Summoned To Court - Fare Evasion - South West Trains

Thks Deerfold as well. Agree with what you say DaveNewcastle; just always been under the impression you couldn't get a discount once on board. Mainly Northern Rail experiences - can't think of a time I've not had the opportunity to buy now I'm in SWTLand.

    Winchester - Nottingham

LexyBoy thanks - I thought as much. It was early last year and it's only through reading this forum I've realised I probably had many other options. I took the usual "crack on and just get there" approach; I seem to recall going Winchester-Basingstoke-Reading-Birmingham-Derby-Nottingham in the...

Summoned To Court - Fare Evasion - South West Trains

Yorkie this may have been covered Ad Infinitum elsewhere, but is there a reason why discounts aren't offered on the train? If you hold the appropriate railcard, why shouldn't it be, especially if you haven't had the opportunity to buy one yet. Or if you get on from an unstaffed station where the...

    Tottenham Hale - Euston

I was in the "Euston Tap" on Saturday, just outside the station (old toilets I think on the main road). If you like your beer, go there. You will be spoilt for choice.

    Winchester - Nottingham

I have a couple of questions about this route - one relating to a recent(ish) journey and another to a future journey. I travelled to Nottingham last year. Upon arrival at the station you have to pick a Via Banbury ticket (£86.50 - a couple of routes inc. Birmingham and Derby) or Via London...

    Trains with insufficient announcements

Best announcements - Barcelona Metro. Catchy tune, female and male voices for 'next stop' and station name. Strangely intoxicating.

    Advance tickets Perth to Manchester

I suppose Easyjet etc seem to say "only 3 seats left at this price" and such like, although whether this is a ploy to get you to book it quickly we'll never know.

    Cycle Reservation

Do cycle reservations ever get 'enforced'? I've had them in the past and just been given a shrug when the spaces were all full. Result = annoyed people and cycle in aisle.

8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown

That is an impressive effort. I like the way he starts to realise halfway through what's about to happen. Countdown with Jimmy Carr et al is one of the best things on TV at the moment. Alongside David Moyes dismantling Manchester United. This took some balls... http://youtu.be/JSUmAGV2Uco

I didn't know that about the elected head; could be very interesting if Prince Charles isn't widely received.

Reopening of Fawley branch to passengers: plans shelved

Anything that has the potential to take cars away from that road should be welcomed!

Put your ticket in ticket barrier, some guy hops in front..

The assistant on the gate line usually lets me through if this happens. I suppose if I haven't touched ill end up being charged a full day cap so it's not too much of a risk? --- old post above --- --- new post below --- On second thought they can check with those little machines can't they?

    Stagecoach Manchester fares

Looks cheap compared to a single in London!

Advice Needed for Flat next to Rail Lines, over-night services?

You do get used to it. My wife lived almost on the London to Gatwick/Brighton lines for a while and after 2-3 nights I slept right through it all and hardly batted an eyelid as trains whistled past during the day. Do the same sort of research you would with anywhere, roads/neighbours/rail etc...

Put your ticket in ticket barrier, some guy hops in front..

Has happened to me a couple of times with Oyster. When it's busy everyone can be so close together, and you assume each Oyster will work. When it doesn't and you're not concentrating, you inadvertently let the person in front through and end up stuck. Pay more attention!

    Overnight Sevices.

Couple of years go me and a mate did Berlin-Prague-Krakow-Lvov-Kiev-Kishinev-Bucharest. Awesome journey with a couple of nights in each City and overnight trains where appropriate. The Lvov-Kiev was a wonderful old school internal affair, with a rather grumpy but attractive female attendant in...
