"We Played a 72 Hour Game of Tag Across Europe (Again)"

Either way, you do notice these American conceptions of the best way to get around crop up in these series. Jet Lag I thought was particularly odd for the repeated insistence on using taxis/uber to reach city centre destinations.

Evolyn to investigate cross-Channel rail services (clarified to not include Mobico)

€2.7B for 100 trainsets ordered by SNCF. 2018 prices, and includes a maintenance contract. So maybe €35M a pop for someone like Evolyn?

Evolyn to investigate cross-Channel rail services (clarified to not include Mobico)

Quite a blunt reference to them potentially being short of funds for an acquisition. Suggests perhaps lack of confidence in the venture?

A HST to be used in Mexico?

Been reported on a Spanish language FB post that they're limiting them to 2+5 for now for that exact reason.

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

Indeed, first generation DMUs in the early 2000s were invariably pretty knackered above the solebar, and we've come pretty close at Northern and Scotrail to writing off Sprinters given the extent of structural work needed; only there are (or at least pre Covid were) few DMUs available to replace...

    BRIGHTLINE Miami to Orlando

It does rather contrast with the accusations that HS2 has been engineered to be too big to fail. Incidentally, since the business plan seems to at least partly rely on the state funded CAHSR to be built, do we know if BLW are providing any funding help?

    Voyagers for Stirling-Euston?

See this thread from several years ago: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/how-often-do-or-have-class-67s-reached-125mph.30624/

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

Ah I see now yes. My apologies.

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

Scotrail was until EGIP/HST introduction the largest turbostar operator.

More Delay for HS2, and how should we proceed?

Virgin and Aer Lingus have wide bodies based out of Manchester, and direct flights to a variety of Asian and North American destinations already exist. Though obviously there is less of an emphasis on business travel vice London. I agree there is probably now a greater understanding amongst...

    Where are the 73s ?

I think if you compared say the interior of a 2020, 2010 and 2000 BMW 3 Series you could quite easily make the case for moving up to a newer model. New or nearly new cars do offer a variety of advantages over their predecessors, and this is coming from someone who owns a very old Volvo.

    GW 769s to Scotrail?

In fairness by the time the last couple of GWR ones are withdrawn in May 2025, they should be reasonably far advanced in the procurement of HST replacements and could point to that.

    Where are the 73s ?

I drove up home to Scotland from Ashford in a rented Corsa (courtesy of the RAC) on the 1st, and there was already a 73 reg BMW (iX possibly?) behind me at one point then. I've seen a fair few since then, though not having ventured much away from the Central Belt, it may be different elsewhere...

GWR Class 769 information. (Units no longer with GWR - Off Lease March 23)

I notice they've got the units tail lights powered up, rather than a battery lamp placed at the rear, is that something that can be done using just the unit's (internal) batteries?

Potential future uses for class 68 & Mk5 sets?

The whole idea of retrofitting better silencers would be to get around that limitation!

    Voyagers for Stirling-Euston?

Yet when the opposite happens we get moaning of wasted money and idle trains sitting around doing nothing as well! (see Anglia 755s)

    Voyagers for Stirling-Euston?

I was under the impression that the Avanti 80x stock would be getting special clearance to run beyond 110 in certain places and that would only be possibly by replacing the speed limit signs currently used for Voyager EPS speeds? I believe there's a limit of 3 different speed differentials...

ECML Speed - Will trains ever reach 140mph?

Around 2:33 is where you can see views from the lineside.

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

On this point I think its worth mentioning that they have performed better than Nissan initially believed. Our old 16 plate 30Kwh Leaf had a battery health around 83% at 125 thousand miles.

ECML Speed - Will trains ever reach 140mph?

I believe the alignment of the Selby diversion was designed with a theoretical aspiration of 160 mph. York to Darlington as a whole is in the main very straight as well.
