ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Those limits existed in the very early days of the HST, but modifications have long since been made to the braking and even 2 + 1 ould be permitted at 125

    Future of Class 458s

I suspect that was a typo and was intended to say 10 years younger than the class 320

Fantasy: You can create your own Multiple Unit/Multiple Unit Family.

Which defeats the point of using non-standard height couplers that exclude pretty much all other traction. But yeah, they need very high ETS that already removes most locos from hauling, so maybe it's not such a huge disaster.

Class 365s - Possible use as freight trains by Varamis.

Well that's the thing, this proposal seems at best very flimsy.

Slight changes you would make to liveries to make them nicer

Oh... Must have been really tired when I wrote that then! They have 387s right? so Electrostar....

OBB nightjet Downsized to UK loading gauge. The mk5 is so annoying with it's dellners and at the wrong height at that, but still manual cables.... so unnecessary

Replacing the Desiors with Aventra? Dunno about the black given you're keeping the warning panel.

Class 365s - Possible use as freight trains by Varamis.

Remember, most people are very casually interested in the hobby, and as they now look so different to their other networker cousins, its maybe even good that they have a nickname for people to use, and I'd stil say better than nothing at all.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polaris_(train) As you say, won't happen, hasn't stopped the plan going pretty far along though.

Slight changes you would make to liveries to make them nicer

I'm too young to remember BR, but reading about their multitude of (often repeated) plans.... I certainly admire the optimism many of their plans had, given the continual lack of funds.

Thank you. Always surprised they got such modern stock for a declining business.

LNER to retain some Class 91s & Mk4 sets for a bit longer

https://twitter.com/HiPa1973/status/1251035069961179139?s=19 Interesting 91 load 7 +DVT, anyone know anything about the reasoning for shortening the train? just reduced demand? or is something planned for shortening the trains?

Class 91s to 'top and tail' 7 coaches? (Update: there are no plans to do this)

So, the ovbious question is, is this a permanent thing? or merely a temporary reaction to the reduced demand at the moment?

Class 91s to 'top and tail' 7 coaches? (Update: there are no plans to do this)

Give the non motor carriages to cross country and stick 43s on either end :D

The last slam door trains in public service

The 37s and Mk2s have gone back to 150 now is my understanding.

    LSL Class 90s

As delivered Intercity I thought? Though personally I'd have liked a good a Railfreight Dsitribution or the Mail subsector I forget the name of.

The last slam door trains in public service

Think you've misunderstood, that's referring to unlocked doors. Obviously slam doors have operated much later than that, HSTs were operating and still are with locking slam doors.

Could Virgin have replaced Super Voyagers on West Coast before the franchise change in 2007?

Virgin was pushing for a franchise extension in return for ordering extra pendos, but the Dft overrode them and just ordered the pendos themselves. What number were VTWC planning to order? the same number? or more? had they been planning to get more, XC could have gotten a couple of extra 221s...

Class 484 replacing class 483 on the island line: progress updates

I seriously doubt they are going to sell 4 or 5 car 60 mph diesel units. Having an extra type complicates things and it's the diesel generators that are usually the limiting factor rather than a lack of motors. The Island Line is only getting 2 car trains, and I doubt anywhere else will really...
