It's always going to. TOCs are still pushing out ridiculous levels of Advanced tickets at silly prices - look at LNWR Advanced tickets sales, loads for under £10-15 that aren't necessary as they would sell at off-peak pricing anyway.

Make sure he reads the job profile thoroughly. Every answer must prove he has the same set of skills the profile requests. Use Buzz words, otherwise he will never pass that 1st screening test.

Computer testing and MMI are usually done same day. Though I would expect you to need a full day. Both times I've done both it's been roughly 9am-2/3pm. But neither time was with TPE so may be different
