When I passed 001 at the sidings in Southport this afternoon I heard that ticking noise they make when the trains are in stations. I’m given to understand this is something related to the compressors. Is this so? And is it normal for a train at a siding with no one aboard to make this noise?

I messaged merseyrail again to ask about it and that’s what they said too. That she’s in the sidings. This is about half an hour ago. But I’m quite sure I saw 001 pass Freshfield a little before ten o’clock. I may be mistaken but 001 is very distinctive. Seems an odd thing to mix up. 1713610720...

015 and 029 are doing Southport line. Just passed Freshfield. I wondered what that appliance was doing, I saw it go up the road beside the track from a pub next to Freshfield station. 1713600765 507001 is on the Southport line today

Managed to get a look at 001 at West Kirby yesterday. The livery really does stand out. Just out of curiosity, how often do they wash the trains? She’s a tad less shiny than when I first saw her in December, obviously a natural part of being outdoors.

Is there any way to know in advance where sets will be? Say two or three days in advance?

I saw one 507 set leave Southport today around 1030. I live aside the line and all I’ve seen all day is 777s. Could that have been 507 011 I saw?

Fair point. Although good if it means they are in service a bit longer. I’ll miss them. The new trains don’t have quite the same appeal. Although one day we might be seeing a farewell tour of those and wanting one preserved .

The preservation of 507001 is fantastic news. Just out of curiosity, how come the farewell tour has been deferred?

It’s chaos. They’re just getting things going again but there will probably be disruption the rest of the day. I was on 507001 going up from Hunt’s Cross and we were dumped at Sandhills.

How do you get which set is doing the services? When I look at real-time trains I get the timetable numbers but not the set number.
