There will be "Boscastle Guided Shed Tours" on the Saturday and Sunday of the Last Hurrah Gala this weekend.

There was still work to do on the regulator, but it has now been reported as in light steam on the NVR as of last night.

Just to complete the story of the construction of the feeder station at Braybrooke, here are a couple of views showing the completed work and gap where the Three Arches bridge was situated (The view from it is missed!!)

Tornado was still in the shed at Loughborough over the weekend. It has had some work done to the regulator as the steam dome cover has been removed.

The weather is looking good for this and there is an intensive timetable. The Boscastle Shed Tours are taking place on Sat and Sunday. No booking required and they are free, but a donation towards Boscastle's overhaul is appreciated. There is the Windcutter Sales /Information stand at Rothley C...

Although the GCR has two TPO sets (LNER and Mk1's) I don't think either will be running. They are being overhauled and steady progress is reported in MainLine. The Mk1 set has Tender 80458 completed and painted. Work has started on Brake BPOT 80458 then the rake will be prepared for running...

What is really fascinating is wondering whether the GCR (heritage railway) will be running trains over the MML (having completed "Bridging the Gap") before the section to Loughborough is electrified!

It is going to fit seamlessly into the green landscape and the contrast between the canal barges and high speed trains will be amazing.

I seem to recall a figure of 106?? Lb per yard....but they may actually be a mix. However there is a section Quorn to Swithland which is passed for high speed running (under test conditions) 60mph steam and 75mph diesel which must be to NR standard (112 lb/yard???). I am happy to be corrected...

I believe it is still the aspiration to build a curve (chord) line so that trains will be able to go straight into the Ruddington station - eventually.

Strictly it is water vapour that is seen, as per clouds, steam is water at 100+degrees C. The cooling towers are there to cool the condensing water I believe.

Thanks for the updates. It is interesting to see how well it is fitting into the landscape already - despite some people describing the construction as a huge scar across the landscape.

The recent "Railways at Work" event went very well with lots of people travelling on the four different passenger trains, admiring the three different freight trains. A busy timetable and Quorn yard was a hive of activity. The Locomotive Shed tours had a steady flow of visitors on both days.

The timetables for the "Railways at Work" event (Aug 10/11th) are now available on the GCR website. It has a 1966 theme with lots of action at Quorn yard. There are three different goods trains in operation. Locomotive shed tours running from 10.30 to 3.30 pm on both days at Loughborough...
