I think the GCR has done footplate rides in Quorn yard for £10 (?) at some events. They also do various packages for steam and diesel on the full line.

That was my experience in the early 70's at university! The cards had to be kept in order (a diagonal line drawn across the edge of the stack helped). If there was a mistake on a card, the computer stopped and you had to re punch the card, put the stack back into the computer office, and wait...

The GCR has at least 6 diesel running days advertised and two Diesel Gala events. They have a row of heritage diesels close to the platform at Loughborough and they advertise their diesel railcar services.

I believe the tilt mechanism in at least one carriage is in working condition....at least it was a few years ago. I too would love to see it running again though. A slightly dubious thought ..... when a Pendolino is retired, if it was re nosed and repainted, would that do the trick??

Thanks Mr. SW. Apparently there was a battery fault on the class 20, discovered on Saturday morning, which was fixed by the afternoon.

Sunday was a training run for the Stewards, who will be with each group of guests, and to check out the timings/content/format. There are more details on the GCR website.

As has been said, there is a dispensation, so the speed at pick up was around 50mph. The people on board were all working members of RVP/GCR/C&W. There are indeed older videos and I believe the (BR Mk1) set could be back in action later this year.

The GCR are now offering a "Goods Experience" and it certainly is a different way of seeing the GCR - a brake van ride is part of the package.

I think the Rail Vehicle Preservation group run the TPO mail coaches on the GCR, I believe they have a website for contact details. I did have a ride in the pick up coach on the GCR years ago and was surprised at how violent the pick up was at speed.

There was a tamper which went along the line last year which I think went via the chord line to the MML.

The GCR hopes to make a success of its main line connection when the Gap is bridged to the Northern section. They (GCR(N) ) had used the chord line to the Midland Main line to run gypsum trains but the closure of coal fired power stations has reduced demand for such traffic.

In our Windcutter team, there are a mix of people who just enjoy the, very niche, activity of keeping 16T steel mineral wagons running. However there are 4 retired, degree qualified, mechanical engineers, who had senior managerial/technical roles.....who now like getting their hands dirty -...
