I was at Birmingham New Street a week or two ago, getting a Cross Country Voyager to Leamington. It was a 4-car class 220, but one of the carriages had the outside frame bogies of a 221 (so I assume it was a 221 carriage). Does anyone know how this 220/221 hybrid set came to be?

I get that leaf fall = lower adhesion = slower trains = less trains in schedule. But I do not get why they have also shortened some of the remaining trains from 6 coaches to 3 - if anything they should have lengthened the remaining trains to make up for the decreased frequency. I would not...

But a Voyager is faster than a freight train, even with the stops at Leamington and Banbury surely it shouldn't have been held up?

That makes sense (I assume the crew were too late arriving in Brum to catch the right train), but it doesn't explain why they also let the freight train overtake us.

I was at Snow Hill yesterday at 5pm ish, and there was a 67 with a single Mainline business class coach on platform 3 - although they were not actually coupled together (close enough to be coupled though). Anyone know the story behind that?

Went past Tyseley this morning, and London Midland's two 172's were coupled together. There was also a 170 parked very close, but I couldn't tell if it was coupled to the 172 or not.

Anyone know why?

Went past Tyseley today a little before 8am. With the sun where it was I got a good look inside 172 331/2. I could be wrong, but it looked to me that there was virtually no seating installed. Can anyone confirm?
