Should we introduce a 3rd class?

I was on a "three-class" train about two weeks ago - a rush-hour LM train from London to Birmingham, formed of 12 coaches (3 x 350s). As the guard kept helpfully reminding the passengers: "the carriages with the blue seats will go forward to Birmingham, the carriages with the green seats will...

    advice with planning please

All trains in Austria (except night trains, and a couple of trains to Prague) are walk-on. Also, Gordon gives the impression that you need to pay a supplement/reserve a seat on ICEs in Germany with an Inter-Rail pass. This is not the case - domestic ICEs in Germany are all walk-on and...

    Are ICE3s Computer Controlled?

Yes, from what I have seen. The trains can accelerate/decelerate without input from the driver.

Is EC At Seat always this Chaotic??

 I can relate to this. On one of my (few) journeys in EC 1st class (Highland Chieftain), the service seemed to consist solely of the jug-waving dance and a few grunts. I was quite disappointed given the generally positive reviews on here. That is so true. Even more so on a flight, where...

    Virgin Trains Club Class Service

Yes, the Standard Premier product (ex-Leisure First) is so downgraded that I've given up on it. Instead, Standard will do for me, and with part of the ample fare savings I'll stock up in style at M&S at St Pancras, or at the small supermarket at Bruxelles-Midi. It is only a 2-hour journey, after...

    Interrail Ticket

Personally, I wouldn't risk it. I have seen reports of French ticket office staff refusing to issue Inter-Rail passes if France is not the country of residence - obviously, you don't want that to happen. Why not buy it in the UK in advance?

    Is this a rip-off?

ATW is responsible for some decent fares. Birmingham - Wrexham CDR via Shrewsbury or Crewe/Chester for £14.10, for example. No CDR is available BHM - Crewe, so it's much better than a £22.10 SVR (set by LM).

Humber Explorer tour 02/04/11 travel help

As a last resort, on the Friday night, you could stay at the Newport Travelodge (currently on sale for £19 on 1 April when I checked), very close to Newport station, and get the 05:09 to BPW or BRI on the Saturday morning.

    New Zealand Railways

I took the Overlander in 2007 - an enjoyable experience, but not one I'd be rushing back to do. The train was full and is not long, so there's little space to move about in: can be uncomfortable if you don't warm to the fellow travellers closest to you. It's a long journey - about 11 or 12 hours...

    Sentence disgrace

Why the aggressive tone? It doesn't mean that he can't be moderating at the same time. I asked a genuinely curious question - other boards allocate moderators to specific forums. It doesn't preclude them from posting on the same forums, but at least you know who is moderating what...
