I'd love for the Swallow to make a return for all IC routes (and a small "operated by" at the bottom of just one car). InterCity could still be such a strong brand for the railways.

Not quite the same but I've noticed that Kent House station seems to have houses, wonder how much they shake?
They could do what Southeastern do on their 375s and just put a first class antimacassar on a small selection of their normal seats. Then let anyone sit there regardless of what ticket they hold.
Had a slightly drunken chat with a Southeastern conductor yesterday about the changes and he also said how grim the Networkers are these days and could all do with a refurbishment, as well as himself :)
I thought this thread would start to go badly.
It reminds me of Richard Herring playing the driving instructor and mocking people saying "Can't you drive??"
I do agree, they are horrible dirty trains these days and not very nice to travel on.
I would like to see most of them handed over to TfL with some kept and refurbished with carpets, 2x2 seating and tables and used as support for longer distance journeys. Could they be regeared for 90mph...
The one at East Farleigh on the Medway Valley Line had an unfortunate incident the other week:

A notorious spot for "road rage" and tailbacks - haven't heard how the poor signalman is now but I guess no news is good...
I've only "come out" over the past couple of years about my interest in trains with the lads down the pub. You get to an age when you don't give a monkey's what other people think anyway, and can take some light-hearted ribbing.
Having said that, I don't think I could ever do the whole spotting...
