I am trying to buy a ticket from Swindon to London Zone 2 (but wishing to travel in Zone 1 first as well). Whilst this destination option is quoted on NFM 05 (as Zone U12* Londn) it does not appear to be listed on the 3 on-line booking sites that I've tried (Cross Country, First GW and Arriva...
Thanks for responses. On a related note, if you want your final destination in London to be a tube station then presumably you should buy a tkt straight through from origin to the tube station, but for flexibility, can you instead buy a tkt from origin to 'London Zone 2' or whatever zone you want?
If you have a ticket for a journey that involves going into one London Network Rail station and leaving via another London NR station, does your ticket always include the cost of underground transfer within zone 1. Would you be OK leaving the underground at a tube-only station as long as you...
So an Audley End - London tkt is definitely fully valid from Stansted Airport (has anyone tried using one)? Is there no issue related to break of journey i.e. is it OK to start your journey from Stansted Airport?
I think the basic answer is that you can't use your Advance on an earlier train - they are specific to the particular service. I'm not sure if you can use them as payment towards another ticket instead, but even if you can there is probably an admin charge.
On Sundays from 18 July onwards there appears to be engineering works between Swindon and Bristol Parkway resulting in slower journey times than normal. Does this mean services will route via Chippenham, Bath and Temple Meads instead, or will they use the normal route, but with speed restrictions?
A little while back I posted questions relating to how the route maps work and someone posted links to the 'yellow' and 'pink' pages which show permitted routes and routeing points. I saved the links and just tried them again now and they didn't work. Are they temporarily down or have they...
Isn't a route always valid if it's shown on the NR website? However, I agree that excepting the website then the route does not appear valid (maps MM, NC).
Useful mileage analysis there to confirm the permitted route, although as you say, not exactly easy to do. Wouldn't it make more sense for the CE map to be amended to allow Worcester direct to Bromsgrove. I appreicate there are many other services affected by this but I can't see how it would...
Thanks for confirming, although I hadn't picked up on the Worcester to Birm routing issue. The CE map clearly shows that you can't route direct from Worcester to Barnt Green (thus via Bromsgrove) but have to route via Cheltenham. This is illogical though, and doesn't link with the fact that on...

Thanks for the reply, with links to where you have comprehensively set this out before. I have in particular gone through the 'Steps' in the ATOC guide, and have a better understanding.
I was doing a check for a Cardiff-Derby journey, and whether travel via Hereford is acceptable.
On the...
Can anyone provide me with an idiot's guide to how the Routeing maps work - how you use them and how it determines valid routeing. I have the link to the ATOC maps - what's the difference between green dots and squares. How, for example, would you go about determining the validity of routes...
I want to travel from Swindon to London Zone 8 on a Saturday (returning same day). Is it cheapest to ask for a through tkt to Zone 8 when I buy my rail ticket? I assume I will get a Zone 1-8 Travelcard combined with the rail tkt?
Thanks.
Thanks. My query is prob for a max of 5 people so I see it will be GroupSave. I assume you get nothing extra off for a 5th person so it would work out 5 people for the price of 3?
The link is useful although the 'Applicable train operators & stations' section does not give any more details...
How many adults need to be travelling together to qualify - is it 3? And are there set criteria as to how much discount you get depending on how many people there are - or are there wide variations depending on operator/time.
If there are advance tickets available for your route(s) can you get...
I asked for an Off Peak Monthly Return today and the guard thought I wanted to buy a monthly season ticket. I explained what I wanted and he said 'oh, you mean a Saver'!
Thanks. When I hear the term 'open' I think of it being Anytime, though I know you can get anytime day returns. Glad I'm not the only one confused by this ticket.
What's the correct terminology when asking to buy an Off Pk ticket that is valid for a month return i.e. SVR on Avantix. Is it 'Off Peak Return', as if so it's confusingly close to 'Off Pk Day Return'. I have sometimes asked for the former but they have been about to print me a day return until...
