How difficult is it to arrive or leave at all timetabled platforms. 5 year project to achieve this.

Before platform 5 was restored, it was possible to go through platforms 3 and 4 in both directions between Lostock and Manchester, which allowed for overtaking; albeit that would block trains from running the opposite way until the move was completed. The connection from platform 3 to the down...

How are you all coping with the £3 cap?

Preston Bus have introduced a £3.70 return on my main bus route so my main journey has actually gone down in price since December (vs 2x £2 singles), but if I want to come back on a different route or operator I need a £5.50 day ticket or up to £6 for two singles, so swings and roundabouts

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

In this case I did board/alight but you're right that the possibility of splits/starting short makes it inexact.

    Northern emergency timetable

The Blackpool South timings are in the N9 section of the timetable page (York, Leeds and Colne to Preston and Blackpool) - see the version dated Sunday 22nd December https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/sites/default/files/templates/N9/2024-12-22-to-2024-12-22-1733308271.pdf This shows a train...

Advances More Expensive Than Flexible Tickets?

They do run three Durham-Newcastle services before 9am though, and it seems plausible that the fare tier would be defined in both directions by default.

    Sellafield to Braystones walk

That bridge carries a pipeline and I don't expect it to be accessible. You can however follow the England Coast Path, which runs along the inland side of the railway then crosses the River Ehen on a bridge alongside the railway. You can then pass under the railway bridge to the beach.

1542 Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan North Western - what is the point

It appears that unit goes on to form the 1638 Wigan North Western to Manchester Victoria via Golborne Jn and the 17:13 back out of Victoria.

Help understanding a Bradshaw from 1888

I imagine this stands for marks and pfennigs, i.e. they show the fares for the different classes (Cl.)

    Break of journey

It may help you to know that there are ticket checks at Manchester Piccadilly between each platform and the concourse (either automatic ticket gates or manual checks by staff). Although there is also a footbridge for interchanges, I expect lots of interchanging passengers do so via the...

    Station TOC-to-platform ratio

Claverdon and Bearley are single platform stations with 2 operators (WMR and Chiltern) - are there any with 3?

Would "2 trains on the same platform" work in the UK?

I've also seen two trains share a platform before departing in opposite directions at Preston, Nottingham and Huddersfield.

0943 newcastle to manc victoria 15/07: Delay repay claim rejected

I suppose it depends what ticket(s) you held. There were alternative itineraries via Birmingham or Carlisle that would have got you to Llandrindod at 16:48, but if your tickets did not allow this then perhaps TPE have not accounted for this in their calculations.

Manchester Piccadilly lack of information and layout map

The Platform 13/14 lounge is currently being refurbished so the travelators are closed and passengers are directed to the stairs at the end of platform 10/11. This probably added to the OP's difficulty, although platform 13/14 can be confusing at any time.

[Trivia] Passenger Trains That Often Carry No Passengers For Entire Route

I caught the 06:06 Arbroath to Dundee at Balmossie on a recent Saturday and the guard told me it had been empty up to that point. Nobody else boarded after that so I expect it is sometimes empty for the whole journey. Indeed, I was the only passenger on the Fishguard - Clarbeston Road leg when...

    Stopper allowed out first

The TfW service lost 11 minutes following the stopper between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton, but was then held at Wolverhampton for 23mins for some reason . So can we really blame its curtailment at Birmingham New Street on following the stopper...

Northern strike day and my Grand Central Doncaster to Bradford train is now cancelled.

I agree with you, map WK on its own should permit Sheffield-Meadowhall-Swinton-Doncaster-Wakefield-Mirfield-Halifax-Bradford, since Mirfield is in Huddersfield Group, provided you avoid Pontefract. As for travelling via an alternative (not normally permitted) route, i.e. Pontefract, owing to...

Northern strike day and my Grand Central Doncaster to Bradford train is now cancelled.

This is contradicted by an example in the routeing guide instructions: http://iblocks-rg-publication.s3-website-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/nrg_instructions.pdf Travel from York to Wolverhampton via BY must include Birmingham Group. Birmingham Group is also on CA. Therefore the routeing guide does...
