Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

N Not quite, but most of the equipment is on the top of the train rather than the bottom as is is with the current fleet, therefore the rules on operating when there is standing water on the rails are slightly more lenient, which could result in service running longer during flooding. (Although...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

The original plan was to use Pelaw refuge but it was discovered that the clearance from the OLE was too low for the HSTs in this area…. I’m not an expert in these things, but this came from the team who are doing the moves, it’s gen. Hence why they had to use Hebburn. “Metro futures...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Pelaw can’t be used as the HSTs don’t have enough clearance u def the OHLE in this area, hence the use of theHebburn area instead. There is no link at Longbenton. There used to be one at Benton but that was removed many years ago. testing is progressing well, but no driver training has yet begun.

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

There’s no link to get from Heaton depot onto metro infrastructure.

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

There’s no room for any more of them to come over though, and the ones that are here can’t enter pax service until they have completed all testing. 3 more roads ready to come into service soon I believe. Flooding - there are projects being planned to solved this, especially at Tyne dock. Ill...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Yeah the service is only going to get worse. Scrapping the peak shorts initially helped but now I can foresee a major timetable change on he horizon. With regards to 83 Stadler will only be scrapping it if absolutely necessary. It has most likely been pilfered for all is full parts and I believe...

I think there is one already at howdon which will go for scrap to make room for 02

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

There is a small morsel of truth to this. I believe it was Whitley bay that had a repair don’t to the platform that caused driving cab doors to strike the platform edge if they were open or not properly sealed. Eventually the platform was altered but you can still see a lot of driving cab doors...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

It’s true that as a driver you don’t really know if there is or isn’t any automated announcements. Most of the cabs are too noisy So we rely on someone telling us they aren’t working. Also the official method is to only manually announce major stations and interchanges. There’s a document that...

    Trainee T&W Metro Driver Jobs

I heard this over the tannoy as I went to pick up my train. It’s rather annoying as it tends to push the blame onto drivers and you get all the tweets and Facebook comments saying it’s because we’ve all rang in sick to watch the match. (Terrific though it was). I’m not entirely sure what the...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

If I remember rightly, those units were basically knackered, barely ever worked. Not good enough for driver training even, and training has to fit a tight schedule, so a train not being available for certain lessons can cause huge issues, so in the end they’ve had to go.

First units gone onto a low loader at Howdon depot today. Can’t see which number it is, maybe some one here knows.

Not regular drivers no, although I believe some of the instructors and specialists have.

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

I have heard there have been quite a few test runs already so I’m confused as to why non of the enthusiast have posted pictures on Facebook, I’ve certainly passed the train leaving the depot as i‘ve been coming in at night. And apparently the company is pretty confident that things are going to...

T&W Metro - Sam Fender and Pink Concerts

I’d argue it’s not really the concern of the concert organisers to cover (even partially) the costs of transport for concertgoers, and if it was, it would only mean the ticket prices would go up to reflect this. A decent city’s public transport system should be able to cope with all the large...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Correct. The old panel is currently still in use hence why that part of the old depot is still standing. I believe it’s sometime this or next month when the transfer will happen but it will be a difficult job requiring a pretty extensive outstabling regime for a number of nights.

Will Tyne and Wear metro frequency be increasing once new units are in service?

For some it’s waiting 12 minutes but for those with reduced mobility who can’t use stairs it’s just enough time to get across. And to allow the able bodied to cross quickly but not give enough time for those in wheelchairs etc would be breaking all sorts of disability regulations. (I’m no expert...

Will Tyne and Wear metro frequency be increasing once new units are in service?

The fact that trains often meet at Pelaw is not a good thing, it encourages passengers to run across the platform which is dangerous, and as long as I’m not leaving early I aim to leave towards South Shields or South Hylton before the other train arrives to mitigate this risk. I’d rather a...
