Staff being difficult over attempts to break journey

The general rule is you can break any journey, a relatively small number of Off-Peak tickets forbid it on the outward, but most do not. All Anytime tickets allow it except to Belfast

Should peak fares in England be abolished?

No it doesn't quite simply. Advances are priced to maximise revenue based on what people are willing to pay, not based on the volume of demand per train.

Should peak fares in England be abolished?

Simple, don't sell Advances for Peak time trains. This also removes the cliff edge on the first Super-Off Peak timed departure.

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

And despite that found 11% of customers still went out of their way to ask for Persil. DB is nothing like the LNER trial, Fkexpreis is way more affordable than Anytime, refunds are allowed on "Advance" equivalents, you don't get a reservation unless you ask for one, and there are many other...

XC planned trip Fri 15th May - Questions

This is done on the day of travel. Likewise you can check if it's a refurbished set on the day of travel. If Seatfrog is unavailable the best thing you can probably do is change it to a 1st class ticket before boarding. Unlike GWR and LNER there is no seperate onboard upgrade product available...

    Seat reservation frustration

Not sure what’s going on there, but you definitely don’t need a booking reference to get a seat reservation at a ticket office, so he’s doing something wrong. That said, I’d consider a seat reservation for this journey to be a waste of time anyway.

    Do “Through train” enthusiasts exist?

A while ago, at different times, I've seriously considered doing Bristol Temple Meads to Stansted Airport and Brighton to Great Malvern, but they’d probably get boring in reality. Did manage to fit Aberdeen to Penzance into an All Line Rover though

    MG11 for journey with itinerary

Nothing has changed in this regard. The Routeing Guide has for many years stated that an itinerary validates a route, and your route is permitted under the Guide. No additional rights were awarded to passengers whatsoever

    refund refused

I see what you're saying but I think you're overestimating the relevance there. It wouldn’t necessarily come with an itinerary, and we don't know OP was booked on any specific trains at all with an Off-Peak ticket. From what we do know a full refund is due with a maximum £5 admin fee applied...

    refund refused

To confirm did you have a Super Off-Peak Return for £75.90? If so, yes a full refund is due from the point of purchase. Delay Repay would only apply if you actually travelled, and wouldn't pay out for preplanned engineering work. On the other hand if it was an Advance single then no refund is...

[SE/FI] Updated: Haparanda - Tornio trains funded, expected to start 2026

That will make it impossible to connect to/from Stockholm same day, so actually quite a bad change for Interrailers

    LNER Simpler Fares

I don't see why anyone would encourage buying Advances. For a tiny saving the loss of rights is massive, and LNER will obviously use that to claim "nobody wants Off-Peak tickets they want a £200 Advance instead"

    X country half train locked

That doesn’t explain or justify locking out half the train, there is absolutely no law requiring this.
