    Interrail passes in Northern Ireland.

A bit late now, but many stations and trains are missing from the Rail Planner app, in future you're supposed to press 'Add it manually' and type the stations, departure times and if applicable train number yourself rather than speaking to staff.* This then generates a clear and convincing...

[SE/FI] Updated: Haparanda - Tornio trains funded, expected to start 2026

Ekstra (1st class) will still have the complimentary coffee according to VR. Some trains run through from Helsinki, in which case it will be open until Oulu

Complicated journey, can anyone please help with best ticket price

My understanding is that you can get one “Free Child” Pass per adult. Child-discounted passes are also available for any additional children travelling. For example, if there is 1 adult and 2 children, one child could travel on a free pass, while the second child would need a child-discounted...

Complicated journey, can anyone please help with best ticket price

Britrail London PLus can be purchase via https://www.britrail.com/britrail-passes/britrail-london-plus-pass/ from a computer outside the UK. For the excess: Buy a Leicester–Stansted Off-Peak Return first. A machine is probably the simplest option, or a ticket office. Online retailers often make...

Complicated journey, can anyone please help with best ticket price

Best option is probably as Haywain suggested in post #2 for you. And 4 days in a month Britrail London Plus passes for them, assuming they're not currently UK residents. This includes Bath even though it isn't very close to London. Combined this is probably cheaper than getting a Railcard or...

BR Fares now selling itinerary-free tickets

Very good news! Almost a shame Uber are currently cheaper otherwise I'd probably switch immediately Even though that is in the rules, I've used them fair bit, sometimes with a reservation, sometimes without. I haven't ever shown or been asked for a reservation, so I wouldn't say there is any...

    Tipping on Amtrak

They are paid a full salary, I doubt they’d be offended if they even notice. Even dining car staff receive full wages, unlike restaurant servers who often rely on tips and I’ve seen plenty of Americans either not tip at all or leave $1.

Eurostar is trying to force me to upgrade my ticket

That won't work as the voucher is the payment method used, don't ever believe AI on things of this nature. It's very odd that someone who is supposed to be independent would specify that the refund take the form of an e-voucher...

Advance SailRail Ticket - Ferry now Changed

Just purchase a SailRail Standby ticket, this equivalent to an Anytime Single. There isn't any benefit but are many downsides, not least cost, to purchasing them separately.

Advance SailRail Ticket - Ferry now Changed

But the ticket isn't operator restricted so that doesn't make much difference. Although it's only £6 extra to not have an Advance so well worth it in my opinion, especially on the return leg so you wouldn't have to wait around in Holyhead.

Trivia: networks that have scrapped ticket machines

Most stations have staffed ticket offices/spärrkiosk (quite a contrast with SJ) so not quite the same since you can very easily purchase tickets/smartcards at the station by cash or card (the role is joint with manning the gateline). HSL are retaining the smaller machines for the foreseeable...

    Avanti reservations

Because it's in the data. But yeah it's exactly the same nonsense as Gatwick - Reading, Coaches C and U are unreserved and I never bother with reservations on Avanti personally. The only risk is that if people start taking it seriously, a decade from now new management might forget that it was...

    Avanti reservations

There are no compulsory reservations; even Avanti won’t advertise them as such if you check through their channels. What’s concerning is the creeping tendency for this workaround hack to be talked about online as if it were actual policy.

    Interrail Passes

Dynamic pricing has been in place for a while, so I'm not sure this is actually anything new? Unless you mean that sleeper reservations will now be charged at 60% of the base fare, but if that were the case, I'd expect VR to announce it publicly. I already paid €120 just for a reservation, from...

    Uber ticketing

More good news from 15 June train bookings will earn 2 Avios per pound instead of 1 (although normal UberX, taxi, and Coach will now earn nothing) https://www.headforpoints.com/2026/06/02/avios-and-uber-rides-shake-up-their-partnership/

    Interrail Passes

That is incorrect and at least 5 years out of date. Only the two previously mentioned have a quota, for years now. You can check the journey planners yourself if you have any doubts. Germany to France can even be purchased on board, and I personally got France to Spain on the day in the height...

    Interrail Passes

Only Eurostar and Brussels TGVs have quota, otherwise every space is bookable, so I highly doubt Trenitalia would suddenly start

    Sail Rail fishguard ferry cancellations

When this happened to me, the only advice on JourneyCheck was not to travel to Fishguard, with a link to this page: https://tfw.wales/important-information-about-your-journey The closure of Holyhead at the time meant Stena’s phone lines were understandably swamped, and rail ticket office had no...
