Overnight train from Istanbul to Bucharest (20:00-16:55)

It's only a single Turkish couchette through car in fact. It's possible yes, but don't. You wouldn't purchase all the seats on aeroplane and this is really no different. Someone tried this when I travelled and the provodnik seemed confused and was quizzing them if the phantom passengers were...

Overnight train from Istanbul to Bucharest (20:00-16:55)

The train is at the Turkish exit border for a long time so no risk there, when I took it in 2022 the Bulgarian border checks were carried out on board the train. The actual fingerprints and photo added about 20 seconds top at St Pancras' French border a few weeks though

    Uber ticketing

An Off-Peak ticket isn’t linked to any specific train, the times shown are only a suggestion. The ticket will have a restriction code, and I suspect the train you want to take meets those restrictions. In the unlikely event that it doesn’t, the ticket should also be accepted for the itinerary...

    End of loco-hauled Roma-Sicily InterCities?

Ferrovia Circumetnea, that quote references, did have them in 2022, though.

    End of loco-hauled Roma-Sicily InterCities?

Wow, Sicily has really changed since 2022...

    End of loco-hauled Roma-Sicily InterCities?

Ferrovia Circumetnea certainly won't be boring, that's for sure! It's a real shame if Italy is following the Balkans' lead and replacing proper long-distance trains with commuter-style multiple units as an "upgrade", though. It was quite a nice journey on the old stock

    Uber ticketing

The offer always has an expiry date, that so far has always been extended. At the moment the T&cs say Anyone who subscribes to Uber One for this (including me) should know the risk beyond that date, on at least one occasion it was only extended after the expiry too. Even though Uber might not...

An uncomprehensive statistical analysis of some of the effects of split ticketing

First immediate thought was this doesn’t make sense, Wye to Beaulieu Road is the same price

Denied Boarding Hovertravel Portsmouth to Ryde

This entire thread is making a mountain out of a molehill. The issue is no different to a last bus having reached it's maximum permitted capacity, or even a last train being too full to squeeze on. From appearances, rail passengers without bookings make up a substantial percentage of...

Russia urgently suspends railway border crossings with Europe

RZD appear to operate through Lithuania as usual (attached image shows booking page for 6 July 2026 still on sale with high demand). Even though relations between Russia and Finland are not exactly great, to say the least, I still wouldn’t have thought the Russian side would want to stop...

    Uber ticketing

The end (of Uber credits) is near Screenshot shows an Uber survey asking what would encourage the user to keep booking train tickets on Uber if cashback credits were removed.

    Trainline Flex

The only real issue is it will be used by the likes of LNER to justify claiming that passengers want Advances, because for journeys where flexibility in cancellation matters more than timing it suddenly could be more appealing. And as much as I dislike Trainline that's not even really a...

    Trainline Flex

I assume they/Xcover will be eating the loss, but I don't see why the retailer would have any basis to cancel the tickets from the rail industry's perspective. They could argue the tickets have been transferred back to Trainline, but that still doesn't make them cancellable

    Trainline Flex

I guess it makes sense that Trainline want to take more of the money for themselves... Can't help but wonder if they actually will be able to cancel these tickets though

    Interrail passes in Northern Ireland.

You're supposed to select two random stations and then "Add journey manually" will appear, although I suspect most users won't know this

    Interrail passes in Northern Ireland.

Not ZRS according to Interrail (I use paper passes anyway) https://www.interrail.com/en/plan-your-trip/tips-and-tricks/trains-europe/trains-country/trains-bosnia-herzegovina That is what they suggest, but they probably should make it much clearer

Probably just by selling a new Eurail pass unfortunately, I'm guessing the wrong option was selected when purchasing it

Complicated journey, can anyone please help with best ticket price

Yes, that seems to be how it works. You can view the process here: https://www.visitbritainshop.com/sites/default/files/video/2023-02/BritRail%20M-Pass%20activation%20_%20VB%20Shop.mp4 I admit I had to check this myself, since I normally use old-style paper tickets and "M-Pass" suggests an...

Routeing Change from via Edenbridge/Polegate to via Barnham

Pitty, that was probably the most useful loophole fare I ever found! Used to buy tonnes of those for London splits when I lived in Bournemouth. Opened the barriers and never questioned by staff too, all for £10 with a Railcard
