Lessons learnt.
It all goes to re-inforce my view that using the UK railway is not always simple. Making sure that you know the options, leave Euston before 3.01pm, get the ticket excessed for 75p and then try to find a seat.
Just a final thought. For 75p why bother to have the two options...
Great to hear that it was cancelled at Leamington. Makes my options easy. Thanks.
Just to tease this out a little further - with your patience.
As a normal rail travellor, who reads this forum often, it wouldn't occur to me to excess a XC fare route not london to a via london Virgin ticket for...
Sorry. I'll try to give a very brief timeline.
Dec 2014. Buy MAN - SOU return, XC, Off-peak.
This Monday:
I note line blocked.
4pm: MAN/EUS/SOU being accepted as valid alternative (NRE website)
5pm; MAN/EUS/SOU no longer valid. SOU/EUS/Birmingham clearly specified. No longer any reference to...
What happened next!
Very friendly gate-line staff. Once convinced that there was a genuine need, access arranged FoC.
They don't do platform tickets. Another helpful guy (apparently seconded from ticket office to help desk) suggested that if help is requested at the passenger help point...
Thanks for this. I started the process of arranging a refund/delay repay for the unused Manchester/Southampton return ticket today. My local (Virgin) station said that if i thought that the train had been cancelled, I should go for delay repay. Otherwise, if I had chosen to travel via London...
Thanks for this. Sadly, without going into personal details, its a case of replacing plan A (get on train with friend's assistance - get off train) with plan B (change in London). Not the railway's fault unless deforrestation did cause the landslip.
Great news. Thanks.
Any saving helps - and it would be good to be sure that I will actually be able to get on to the platform to complete the last few yards!!
These 350,000 tons of soil have already cost:
1 days parking at Man. Pic
£10 on ticket refund for original ticket
£15? Taxi across london
? £81 additional fare man/eus return for me!
Following on from my question in "infrastructure and stations", can anyone advise a rustic parsimonious northener as to the cheapest adult standard ticket that will allow access to the same platform as the 13.35 train to southampton on friday?
Again, thanks.
i need to provide assistance with getting a friend's luggage onto a train at Waterloo but am not travelling myself.
Is there some form of platform ticket available - or will the gateline staff just let me through?
Thanks for any advice....
Garsdale leeds london is a very attractive alternative to the wcml, albeit slower. There is already commuter traffic on the line and an early train would encourage greater useage in both these areas.
I've often wondered why the service finishes at ribblehead. There's little population and its a pain to drive to (particularly in winter). Garsdale is far easier - serving both Sedbergh and Hawes. Terminating at Kirby Stephen would add even more potential customers.
I need to travel Penrith to Sheffield on 14th March (depart 14.45) and then return from Sheffield to Garsdale on the 16th. Time of return is uncertain so can't use advances. Is my best bet to use a return from Carlisle and start and stop short? Will the same ticket permit travel on both the WCML...
The RPSS website states on its FAQ section of the website:
Q. I did not travel.
A. If you have received a letter about an incident of which you know nothing, AND THE LETTER IS ADDRESSED TO YOU, then please phone the number shown on the letter. You may have to write to RPSS with evidence...
