HS2 Euston - Development, design and construction news (not speculation, please)

A few shots while approaching Euston: 20260614_191635 by Geogregor*, on Flickr 20260614_191638 by Geogregor*, on Flickr 20260614_191647 by Geogregor*, on Flickr 20260614_191700 by Geogregor*, on Flickr

£2.5bn Leeds Tram plan delayed after government review

The largher the tunnel the higher the cost. Idea of building oversized tunnels to put third track there is simply daft. In principle I have nothing against underground metro, in fact I wish Britain had more of them. But let's get real. Tunneling is multiple times more expensive than any above...

£2.5bn Leeds Tram plan delayed after government review

And where would money come from for such underground metro? Especially considering absurd costs of building infrastructure (or anything really) in the UK .

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

Constructing of the trains should be much quicker and easier than for the Piccadilly Line. Most of the tricky design and development will be basically done. The question is how much infrastructure works need to be done.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Looks quite narrow, or is it just my wrong impression?

HS2 Construction Updates - Birmingham Area

This is temporary addition, just for the move. It will be removed. Actually it might be already removed before the final push.

Charing Cross area closed for 22 days this summer (26th July to 16th August 2026)

There is still a mindset in Southeastern that metro services are less important that services from down in Kent. It was always that way, or at least in the last 20 years, since I moved to SE London. Metro service with 2TPH is a joke by world standards. Even on weekends, but let's not even start...

    London tram replacement updates

Yes, it looks that the mess is on the TfL side.

    DLR B23 Stock (CAF Inneo)

It might be partially due to construction of the building above the tracks. This one: 20260310_165021(0) by Geogregor*, on Flickr

    Brighton Main Line improvements

Because Networkers are literally falling apart. Yes they might not be the oldest units ever but not much was done to improve them in recent decades. So they are really struggling, there are faults on a daily basis.

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

You are probably tad optimistic, especially looking at recent fleet introductions in the UK. The way things are going many more Networkers will go to junk before we see the new fleet.

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

More importantly, does anyone know what is happening with the tender for the new trains?

    HS2 TBM Progress

All the public activities (visits by dignitaries and media crews) due to start of the second TBM must have disrupted progress somehow. Also, they are still just starting, so threading carefully.

HS2 Reset: Evidence to Transport Committee - 9 July 2025 "Total overspend on high-speed rail could be as much as 100%"

The problem is that such reduction at this stage wouldn't bring much savings. Unless they go for ballasted track. But that would require new design, ripping up contracts etc. That means years of further delays for probably negligible savings after all that. Other options is to change only train...

    HS2 TBM Progress

But is any digging ongoing at Euston? I thought they are still thinking what to build ;) Anyway, nothing to do with the TBMs...
