Quick question, maybe even answered before.
When class 800/802 run in diesel mode do the diesel engines drive the wheels directly or just generators to provide power for the electric motors? I assume the latter...
It might be a silly question. When the bi-mode units drive in the diesel mode do the engines actually drive power the wheels directly (I mean via transmission) or generate power for the electric motors which then actually drive the wheels?
Sure, that's a lot of potential customers. The question is how many of those homes will be occupied in the life of the new franchise. It would make quite a difference into SE revenue if they mostly occupied in 3-4 years from now rather than in 5-7. Charlton developments are years away...
To be honest the ride quality at high speeds is low on most British trains when compared to continental railways. I'm always surprised how much I'm "thrown around" on the trains in the UK. Try walking in the carriage or using the loo. This year I took trains to Totnes (twice) and I also traveled...
I don't think any of the bidders plan their bids around possible passenger growth/decline (depending on route and station) after Crossrail. At this stage it would be extremely difficult to reliably predict the flows. The new railway will need months of full service (unlikely in 2019) for...
Yes, that's precisely what it is:

How about Catford? This is one of the worst stations in SE London (and there are tones of crap ones here).

Completely inaccessible, not just for disable but also for families:

They are available on the National Rail website:

This is really needed as some stations feel like a dump.
For example Hither Green, it is leaking left right and centre. The whole platform canopies should be replaced.
Also the foot bridges, they feel like they might collapse any day. Wobbly, broken steps etc.
The whole station looks like it...
