    Many thanks for the additional information. Yes, "cut and cover" is the term for that type of construction. Something that does not seem to be generally known for that particular tunnel. I wonder if the second smaller tunnel was constructed in the same way.

    I wonder how frequently the dumper exits the tunnel. My estimates in Post #1538 would suggest that if the dumper is exiting with a load every 2 hours over a 24 hour period, then they should be tunnelling at a rate of about 4 metres per day. Not enough, but at least progress.
