Defence Investment Plan - Impact on DfT Budget

I'm surprised they didn't "pause" the MML electrification again. (After "unpausing" it for 30 seconds). Can you tell I'm still bitter about this? <(

    Odd connection announcement

But if that announcement is on approach to Nottingham then the service will have picked up passengers at Beeston, for example, and it may make sense for them to double back via Nottingham if connecting for London or Birmingham since only half the relevant services stop at Beeston.

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

The linked article doesn't seem to mention A/C on the Sheffield trams as being the cause of withdrawal. Maybe they were taken out of service due to infrastructure concerns which do not apply to buses? For example, abnormal sagging of the OHLE due to heat could risk dewirement, or the sleepered...

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

Yes, it's predicting 41C for the Birmingham area on 11th July. Meanwhile the BBC has the peak temperature at 30C for the same day. At least one of these is going to be wildly inaccurate!

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

But people often celebrate birthdays on the nearest convenient day anyhow. If I was holding such an event I'd probably move it to the next convenient day under current circumstances. So I wouldn't call it "essential".

222 contract for Scotrail: updates (not speculation)

The appalling mobile signal has got to be a huge downside though these days, given these are going to be is service for a long time now. That's one of the main reasons I'm glad to see the back of them on the MML!

Penalty for honest no railcard mistake

Your ticket was invalid, so you had no "right to travel". This is a strict liability criminal offence - it being an honest mistake is no defence, the same as offences like speeding. This out of court offer is not at all out of line with expectations. If you go to court you will lose, end up...

"Age of offender" / Low likelihood of repeat in TfL prosecution policy

I thought there was a policy not to prosecute people eligible for an Older Person's Freedom Pass (even if they don't have one), I seem to remember that was mentioned before.

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

The class 222s on EMR are likely to be a nightmare. Pre-heatwave, several coaches I've been in recently have suffered A/C failure, I'll bet with the current condition of the 222s there will be mass failures at 35C+. Meanwhile we've seen reports that the 810s are suffering from water cascading...

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

I can't remember, do we know what the criteria are for introducing speed restrictions, is there some specific temperature? And I seem to remember it typically being a 50mph blanket limit, is that right?

Grand central apply for new routes

Avoiding Derby and the reversal by taking the route from Sheet Stores to Stenson Junction to get to the Uttoxeter route would maybe save up to 15 minutes and bring the journey time down to around 2hr45m versus 3hrs but that's still versus around 2hrs on the WCML. But avoiding Derby might make...

Grand central apply for new routes

I make it about 3 hours for St. Pancras to Manchester Piccadilly via the MML and Uttoxeter, versus around 2 hours from Euston via the WCML. I suppose if it was cheap enough you'd get some traffic.

Grand central apply for new routes

So I'm baffled as to what the point is of going to the expense of making an application for this route when there is absolutely zero chance of approval.

Grand central apply for new routes

As far as St. Pancras to Manchester is concerned, I thought all possible paths at the southern end of the MML were already occupied by Thameslink and EMR?

    Travel Irregularity Notice

Just on this specific point: This should not make any difference to how TPE proceed. Many people are initially dishonest when stopped, all that matters is how you engage when they contact you.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

1D66 1805 St Pancras International to Nottingham cancelled today when I was sitting on it waiting to depart, we were all chucked off at about 1815 due to an unspecified train fault. I think the failed 222 had already substituted for a failed 810. Not fancying the 1835 stuffed with two...

Toilets (or lack of them) on some modern trains. What lessons should be learned?

Of course not all of it is urine. I've quite frequently come across washbasins where the taps spray all over the place and make the floor into a swamp, or where a sudden spurt from the tap can easily deflect off your hands onto the floor.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

It seems to be happening far too often to be random occurrences of litter just happening to be in the wrong place. I don't remember ever seeing much litter lying around in the vestibules. But that's just my perception, I could be wrong.
