Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

I'm really surprised at this, you'd think that the training involved would be disruptive and take long enough that this would not help the situation. Surely them going to EMR for "a few months" would be barely enough to get them into passenger service there at all? Or are they so very similar...

Realised I'd been doing Waterloo to St. Pancras wrong for years...

Yesterday with my train coming in to Waterloo 9 minutes late I had 36 minutes to get to St. Pancras. As my incoming train did not stop at Vauxhall and Waterloo East was closed, I went for the recommended tube option - Bakerloo, then change to Victoria at Oxford Circus. From P15 Waterloo to the...

    Fraud Accusation

I'm not angry. I just think it's perfectly reasonable advice in these circumstances, which could bring this to an earlier conclusion. You think it's bad advice. We have different opinions. I don't know what you thought I mean when you said "you are not the person pursuing this". I simply meant...

    Fraud Accusation

How about this then: Any objective person would conclude that being asked to justify every journey in the last five years when they have zero evidence of wrong doing is in fact unreasonable, and given this makes no claims whatsoever about the journeys listed, I can see no way such a statement...

    Fraud Accusation

If you do feel you must respond I'd suggest something short and robust along the lines of: This assumes you are entirely confident that this is a true statement of the facts! I can't see how responding in this fashion gives them "further evidence" as has been suggested above.

    Budget hotels discussion

I haven't been to one for a while, what do they do about breakfast if the restaurant area is closed? Or does that just mean closed for dining, open for breakfast?

Nationalisation of the railways is already heading off track

Right wing privatisation supporter tells us how great privatisation was and how nationalisation is failing already. Ho hum. GBR doesn't even exist properly yet...

    Budget hotels discussion

I wonder if that means they will shrink the breakfast areas to add an extra room or two, if they don't need to accommodate "outsiders"?

GTR penalty fare cancellation notice, received 14th July - Advice Needed

We're getting a bit off topic here but I suppose it's still peripherally relevant - 2nd class post here in Nottingham is currently arriving two weeks late (i.e. taking nearly three weeks total). This could be a big problem for any communication with a deadline attached such as the subject of...

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

I seem to remember a lot of predictions right here around a year ago that something like this would surely happen, and that contingency plans should be put in place, but that that almost certainly would not happen. From my selfish point of view, I'm just glad I've got a pretty reasonable...

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

About time too. Perhaps they finally realised how ridiculous they seemed, continuing to directly blame "forecast severe weather" when the temperature was a perfectly normal for July mid twenties maximum. I'd assumed that the real issue was the fallout from previous extreme heat (on top of the...

Heat related disruption 8 July 2026 onwards

It seems totally outrageous that EMR are cancelling and truncating a load of services today "due to forecast severe weather" when nowhere along any of the routes affected is forecast to exceed 27C, a perfectly "normal" July maximum. Is there something I'm missing which explains their actions...

Cross-country overcrowding: what could be done?

Yes. Ozzy the New Street bull (with the aid of an AI powered gaze tracking system) will identify potential XC customers and zap them with his laser eyes. The resulting ashes can easily be transported in the overhead racks, no seats required. :E

[Trivia] stations where two lines converge on a single station and then both branch off eachother towards different directions.

Yes, I'd say so. Trains from Norwich come in from the Grantham line and go out to Liverpool via the Sheffield route. Trains from Lincoln come in from the Newark line and go out to Matlock via the line to Derby. The routes only have Nottingham in common and they converge and split again there...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

810013 forming 1B55 1350 Nottingham to St Pancras International was 35 down arriving at Market Harborough and 60 down arriving at Kettering. There's nothing ahead of it, I wonder if the unit is struggling or if there are heat related speed restrictions?

Cross-country overcrowding: what could be done?

All of this about the 222s and XC vs Scotrail seems a bit irrelevant, it might be relevant if XC had got all the extra Voyagers, and was able to crew all the units including the extras with none dragged around locked out, and there was still chronic overcrowding. But we seem to be a very long...

Trent Valley Mainline Stations - Embarrassing!

This is why I always use Gorilla Glue and carpet tacks to hold mine on! :E I change there frequently and I think Tamworth is just fine apart from the two defects pointed out (narrow platform and waiting on P2). Of course, there's nothing to stop you waiting in the high level waiting room...

    Fine merseyrail

Personally I think the shoes/no shoes/bare feet discussion is a red herring. Any or these could be perfectly clean or quite obnoxious depending on the individual and expecting Merseyrail to make any distinction is unreasonable. Also bringing other body parts (a sweaty back for example) into the...

Realised I'd been doing Waterloo to St. Pancras wrong for years...

I'd assumed (I think correctly) that because of the change required on the underground, instead walking to Waterloo East, getting a South Eastern services to to London Bridge, and then Thameslink to St. Pancras was probably fastest at about 30 minutes minimum. The underground with the change is...
