    Great Western Electrification Progress

It's been in place for at least a year, it is in a large cable trough, goes under the disused platform at Chippenham and emerges on stilts heading for Wotton Bassett.

    GWR Class 800

Prior to electrification to Swindon going live my train from Chippenham initially was always late by several minutes at best then after a while started to arrive on time, now with electrification to Swindon they are arriving 2 or 3 minutes early so it does really seem to be making a difference.

    GWR Class 800

Well on my first 802 journey, must say they ate better than 800s. First time for me on 07:00 Paddington to Bristol TN. Nice shiny green paint job instead of dull vinyls, much better seat fabric, acceleration is so much better, doesn't cut off once doing about 40 but just keeps on going (in...

    Remaining GWR HST Diagrams

Lot of HST activity this morning on the GWML, the 07:00 Paddington to Bristol was 8 car HST presumably covering for IET and passed what I presume was the 08:00 from Bristol around Corsham which was also HST.

    Great Western Electrification Progress

Well after a weeks holiday I checked my train times today to find the 8:17 from Chippenham to Temple Meads has moved to 08:22 but still 07:00 from Paddington - My first reaction was that now the power is on to Swindon that's a bit of a shame to lose 5 mins! However when I looked at RTT i realise...

Disused Rail Freight Terminal Near Chippenham

The other sidingd have been lifted now. As a teenager I spent many, many days on the bridge over looking Thingley. Almost never saw anything use it (70's) then suddenly there was a class 50 stored there and it was announced it would be used for loco restoration. Sadly never happened.

    Filton Bank 4-tracking visualisation

Given this has got to one of the biggest track re-instatements going on at present I'm surprised there's not been more news posted on here in recent weeks as it's all getting rather interesting and the blockade to join up the final bits only a week away. There are some great pictures on the...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

Corsham is west of cocklebury road and thingley so no work there for a while! Last time I traveled to Swindon there was still a couple of miles of catenery and contact missing around dauntsey and atf is patchy but everything thing else is complete. Nothing much been happening as the line has...

Hull Trains 180 on fire again.

I remember them arriving on GW, they were terrible, constant door faults and the ride ar speed was awful, I remember being bounced around every time they went over points. Was so relieved when they were got rid of!

    Boarding at first class doors

Surprisingly it was a 7 car HST with 1.5 1st class on one of the busiest trains of the day. I had no intention of remaining in the first area but I guess others might have. He could have dealt with that once the train had departed.

    Boarding at first class doors

I just wondered what the views are on passengers boarding first class carriages and walking through to standard. The reason I ask is I just attempted to board a GWR train today which was short formed and in reverse which I only discovered at the point it was arriving so I ended up by the first...

My ideas for Paddington station and GWR services after watching documentary

I think you have answered your own question, the situation is madsivema different and that's why we don't have compulsory reservations!

My ideas for Paddington station and GWR services after watching documentary

How would reservations work for season ticket holders? The whole point is that you can travel on any train as your plans change.

    GWR Class 800

They started me recording numbers again after 40 years but only to see if i can travel on all of them! I've now been on all the 800/0s except 1 and 2 although i've only had 7 as part of a 10 car i was riding in the other unit. Only been on 5 9 cars so far (plus 13 twice!).

    GWR Class 800

Yes it has, I've been on it either last week or the week before.

    GWR Class 800

Went on 800003 for first time today, just 1&2 left. What struck me was given it's only just entered service how poorly the vinyls are lasting, the train looked shabby and dirty and there were areas around the windows where the vinyl was peeling off. The painted 9 cars look much better.

[Trivia] Platforms Where Trains Pass At 125mph

With the Bristol parkway closure the south wales trains are passing through Chippenham at 125 at the moment and yes it is impressive.

[Trivia] Platforms Where Trains Pass At 125mph

Swindon platform 1 and 3 are more or less stopping only and a low limit (don't know exactly what) but platform 4 I think is 85 as is the through road.
