The beanacre sub station is connected by underground cables with a special transformer that came in by road and as the wires never made it to thingley there is a 25kv feeder cable that goes to Wooten Bassett. You can see the cable troughs along the route.
I always use e tickets and have to take a screenshot of the QR code to claim. I guess that's quite hard to fake, however there's no way to prove I was on a particular train.
On the subject of e tickets they seem very insecure, what's to stop me sending a screen shot to a friend? I guess...
So not a spotter any more but, introduction of 800s on gwr has me collecting haulage on them. So the dilemma is 2 five cars together, have you had both for haulage? After a few weeks I decided no I have to be in each unit but can record the other. What's the normal here (is any of this normal;-))
Even better the piles and many of the masts are in place from Chippenham to Thingley but that got cancelled as well and so instead of being able to change over at Chippenham where everything stops they have to do a running change at Christian Malford several miles to the East. The stumbling...
The track was lowered in Sydney gardens to give the required clearances, we had to endure buses for a summer. Box tunnel was also lowered. The problem was the government cancelled due to the costs of the programme as a whole and they sought to make political gain by saving the tax payer the...
That was an amazing feat, the bridge was built on rails and it is a huge dual carriageway bridge, think the rails were tunneled under the embankment as well and the footings put in place with rail traffic over the top the whole time. Then as you describe, the embankment removed and the bridge...
Well I asked the question in the context of the other discussions about plans for freight depots on this thread. If I remember correctly it was built with EU money to be a railhead into Europe but it looks like this never got off the ground and the money was wasted. But I was after confirmation...
Was the yard at South Marston just east of Swindon ever used? I saw it being built years ago but now it seems derelict and Honda logistics seem to have put lorries over the track if you look at Google maps satellite view.
Bit disappointing that despite the major recast there is still no later train from Bristol to Bath and Chippenham. Pretty sure demand would be there for a midnight departure from temple meads running to say Swindon, you could do this with a 5 car IET that arrives from London in the evening and...
I guess the spirit of the original post was all in the same day rather than just any 24 hour period. So would Edinburgh to kings cross and Paddington to Penzance be a better bet than using cross country?
