    On Train WiFi

Does anyone in the know have any idea about potential upgrades to the various onoard wifi systems and TOC preparedness for such upgrades when 5G connectivity starts rolling out in 2019? Are there any plans? How easy would it be to upgrade say for example the TPE wifi system to a 5G sim/connection?

TPE Mark 5A coaching stock progress

With regards to: The first class pic showing a power socket. That pic only shows 1 of 2 power sockets, with the additional socket positioned underneath/in the table. (or for any 1st airline style window seat positioned on the carriage wall below the window)

    CrossCountry lack of train crew

Email at work says that XC are now expecting to run a normal service Sunday 23rd of December. How true that is on the day remains to be seen. TPE will be accepting XC Only Advance ticket types only on the 30th if services on the 30th do fall over due to lack of crew. However TPE will not be...

    TPE Dispatch Farce at York

To add even more to the confusion, guards at York and Scarborough received an email this morning telling them to ignore the new method of work (which we were only told about last night or this morning depending on shifts) until further notice - and haven't heard anything since. However. Guards...

Accessible accommodation problems (due to a different unit type turning up to what was booked)

They also probably feature a fold down table for baby changing purposes. Again. Many reasons, many needs.

Cross country 2 car 170s and seat reservations

Why do you assume that all reserved seats are for people who have paid less than you? Not all seat reservations will be for Advance ticket holders. Many will be for people who have flexible tickets like you who have planned ahead. But yes. There should be a set percentage of unreserved seats...

    Persistent railway myths, misunderstandings etc.

A ticket that says "Route: Any Permitted" can be used to make a journey ANY way a passenger wants to.

Northern Class 170's on TPE stopping service

Currently stopper work is split between Picc and York Conductors. (Services from Hull are also worked by Hull Conductors too. Edit: The above is for booked diagrams. Spare Conductors at other depots that sign the route will occasionally pick up the odd train too. (At least 1 Newcastle Conductor...

Northern Class 170's on TPE stopping service

Just had an email come through confirming that Piccadilly Conductors will be undertaking traction training on 170's. The same email is begging York and Scarborough Conductors to check if they have any KABA or no. 8 keys in their possession. Oh dear.

    Manchester Oxford Rd Info Point/Costa

Ok. I admit I haven't spent any amount of time at Oxford Rd since May. But when did the Info point next to Platform 5 get turned into a Costa? Has the info point moved or has it just been eliminated entirely?

The TPE Hitachis are already under test. Which is early going by the previously mentioned TPE plan.

Why can't driving licences be used instead of Photocards for Season Ticket ID?

Actually the thread started out as clearly indicated by Post#1 with the question "Why Can't a Drivers License be used?" Not Should. Even the thread title makes this clear at the top of the screen. I was referring to the point made by another person that you could just take a photo of the...

Why can't driving licences be used instead of Photocards for Season Ticket ID?

Sure. GTR say it's ok. On GTR services. But that limits you to using a potentially any permitted season ticket only on GTR services as the T&C of using that smart card with a drivers licence only applies to use on a GTR service. GTR states on their website: So to get full use of your ticket...

Why can't driving licences be used instead of Photocards for Season Ticket ID?

A face can slowly change over the years as people age. Hair styles change. Medical conditions etc. But even in a perfect world where everyone updates their photocard fraud can still occur. I have withdrawn photocards a few times (along with the season tickets) over the years. Most of the time...

Why can't driving licences be used instead of Photocards for Season Ticket ID?

Ok. I'm going to highlight a few possible reasons. 1) A photocard issued by a railway company remains the property of the Railway. Therefore if it needed to be withdrawn for any reason - the railway (and railway staff) will be legally entitled to do so. (Fare evasion, stolen season ticket being...

Hull Trains cancellations due to chronic shortage of available rolling stock

As far as I am aware, Hull Trains share the same Control as TPE in Manchester. Stressed probably doesn't do it justice.

Doctor Who - What type of train was that?

You're right. We should also be examining the uniform the driver was wearing, the fact that the carriage had an automated announcement system, Did the alien tentacle thing also attack the Guard who I presume was carrying out protection, Will Conductor/Guards training and the rule book module for...

Doctor Who - What type of train was that?

Hi. I'm curious as to what type of train that was in the new episode of Doctor Who. It was ostensibly set on the Hope Valley line, but it looked like old Intercity carriages of some sort minus the tables.
