This morning the usual Class 170 on the Selby-Leeds route was replaced by a refurbished Class 158. Anyone know if this it temporary, or whether the 170s have moved on?

Confirmed that Selby-Leeds this morning was a refurbished 170 (and very nice it was too). Several 170s at Leeds station too, with fewer 15x units.

On Saturday I saw 170474 at Selby - the first time I've seen anything other than a 142/144/150/153/158 Northern there. Was this just out of place due to the strikes, or does anyone know if we might see more 170s in this area? They look so much more modern in comparison :)

Plenty of 142s operating in the Leeds area at the moment. In fact for this morning's commute from Selby I chose to get on one of the 142 units out of a 142+142+153 train because the heaters are better on a 142, and the seats usually have slightly more leg room that a 153.

The purpose of inserting a card in a TVM is to record who collected the tickets, not necessarily confirm that it's the same person who paid for them (though it can be in some cases). It's not linked to the actual payment as such.
