Normally yes. Some TOC's do them in house though. SWR being one of them, I believe.

Been trying to get a job in the rail industry for a year: is it worth it?

Not how it is for every TOC though. Mine for example, is an average four day 34 hour week. Work 8 weeks on, then off for two weeks (rest days and four days A/L). Within that 10 week period I'm never rostered on for more than six consecutive shifts, unless I do RDW.

    Railway competence group / Traindriving.co.uk

100% agree with this. It's so easy to have an incident if you lose a moments concentration, it certainly isn't a cushy job. Any incident you have, eg wrong side doors, accepting a wrong route, failed to call etc etc, you're off track, disciplinary meeting, potential dismissal etc etc. Yes it...

    Trainee driver job

I too was in the Fire Service before becoming a train driver. There are many transferable skill sets. Now, this is no way a pop at you, as my spelling and grammar could be better. However, when you do eventually apply make sure your C.V, covering letter (If required) and application are top...

    Arriva london trainee driver

I know that's crap news. On the bright side though you now have stage 1 assessments In the bank. Next TOC/FOC you apply for you'll be going to stage 2 after the paper sift. Don't give up.

MTR Crossrail Trainee Driver (Multiple Locations)

It will be a totally different recruitment drive, you can obviously get past the paper sift as you've got to stage one. Like I say try again in six months. Try other TOCS/FOCS too. The more you apply for the more chance you've got on getting through. Good luck..
