Distance from home to depot for new trainee drivers (GTR)

Sounds to me like the OP thinks the candidate has got the nod before him because she is female.

Distance from home to depot for new trainee drivers (GTR)

Well done. They'll hopefully offer you a place soon. Bear in mind though, higher scoring candidates will be used first. It's not done on who lives closest to the depot. Good luck.

Distance from home to depot for new trainee drivers (GTR)

I don't know about GTR specifically, but most TOCS you'll have to live within 45-60 minutes. Perhaps you didn't do as well as you thought and the female candidate outscored you in the interview? (Guessing you made it to interview as you say she has been selected for a course).

    How far is 60 minutes?

It may be seem unfair the whole 45/60 minutes from your home depot but I think they have it spot on. I live a 45 min drive (30ish miles) from my depot (drive into London). To be honest, I wouldn't want it to be any more. Getting up at 2.30am for a 4am book on isn't great and also having to...

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

I'd echo what's being said here. When I did my driver training (another London based TOC), there were people on my course who'd been in the process for over 2 years. I got 'lucky', from my application to course, I waited 7 months. This was all pre Covid too. I should imagine things will be a lot...

How many applications and interviews until you cracked it?

Didn't know any one in the industry. Emergency service background helped with the questions in the MMI.

How many applications and interviews until you cracked it?

Two to get in, both for Trainee Train Driver. Failed first one at DMI.

    Class 345 progress

They do yes. For me personally, I've only had one ETCS fault since the update. 1610791003 You're correct about it departing on time, looked like it failed on leaving CTA. HEX seem to be having a few teething problems on the 387's. Just as the 345's did.

    Class 345 progress

I was driving this unit. Nothing wrong with it, I was stuck behind a failed HEX service in CTA.

    Trainee driver

Second this. Once you're in training school, there is a lot to learn; but you'll be given all the help and support you need from the trainers and your fellow trainees.

GTR - Trainee Train Driver vacancies (07/12/20)

Just an insight into potential numbers that have applied. When my London based TOC last recruited, they had in excess of over 30,000 applicants. It's a very sought after job.

GTR Trainee Train Driver Application Question Help

All that is asking, is how you'd get to work without using public transport.

Do external candidates stand a chance?

MTR Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) I can't speak for other TOC/FOC's. I should think they'll all be the same though. If you get through the selection process and nail the interview(s), it really shouldn't matter what background you come from.

    Driver training

There are definitely TOCS out there that make you resit after 2/3 years of originally passing them.

Do external candidates stand a chance?

I got into the driving grade being an external candidate, on my 2nd attempt. My background was emergency services (fire). Remember though, people from these backgrounds still have to pass and get through the same tests as everyone else. The only advantage we may have, is having good examples to...

    DMI passed Southeastern

Congratulations for passing. I can't speak for Southeastern, but when I started with my TOC it was roughly 7/8 weeks before my course. Gives enough time for results to come back and notices to be handed in etc. Have you been given a course date?

    Question for any Drivers

I've had this too. We do our job, follow the rule book, which we are expected to know all of. Then get a curt response from the signaller.

Carmont (near Stonehaven) derailment - 12 August 2020

Thoughts and prayers to all involved. A horrendous incident to deal with. After being in the fire service for 19 years and attending rail incidents such as this before becoming a driver, I know just how hard these incidents are to deal with. Again, thought's and prayers to you all.
