Is there demand for more sleeper services?

I think it was said to have 'merit on a conceptual level'. It's rare to see a civil servant being so direct. I think the closest I have used was 'somewhat unorthodox'.

What Railway Subject Have You Changed Your Mind About In 2020?

Pacers. I used to think there were just a bit of a relic but basically fine. This was because even though I live in Greater Manchester, I only used pacers at weekends as I commuted by tram. I even used to view them as a nice curiosity. However travelling on a 195 on the Hope Valley Line has...

Jeremy Corbyn suspended from Labour Party (now reinstated) and whip removed

If measured by general election wins, then I believe the statement is true.

Boris to resign? (Speculation) And who should replace him?

Its funny but of all the people I know, none are anti-lockdown or pro-lockdown. They are too busy trying to do their best. Personally, I don't know enough to make an informed judgement.

    Really strange PIS pronunciations

So it is. How strange. I could have sworn I looked through to check if someone had already mentioned it, but it must have been what my partner calls a 'man look'.

    Really strange PIS pronunciations

The 195 on the Hope Valley line pronounces Hope as Hawp. I don't live there but have walked to or from it hundreds of times and only ever heard people saying Hope.

    Ordnance Survey maps

I second dash4it. Used them loads and have never had a problem. They also frequently email me additional discount codes. Thus I normally pay only 60% of the RRP for OS maps.

    Trivia: Stations named after buildings.

Duncraig? Named after the castle I presume.

What is your earliest memory of travelling on a train?

Easter 1994 or 1995 when I was a kid. Sheffield to Grindleford for a family walk. I remember being both amazed and scared by the sheer length of the Totley tunnel. Cannot remember the class, but we called it the 'bumbly train'. Even now we still refer to the Northern Hope Valley stoppers as the...

    Coldest UK railway station

For me it is Edale and one time in particular. I'd walked in the pouring rain and a howling gale from Chinley to Edale. Arriving at Edale, I was soaked and even the two excellent pubs couldn't warm me up. Then waiting for a train home, outside, as the shelter was packed. All whilst still pelting...

Manchester Metrolink - Trafford Centre Extension

From my observations as a passenger passing through it, everything seems completed. With a massive ramp.

Trivia: Stations that share all or part of their name with famous sports stars

Nick (Kempston) Hardwick - the center for the San Diego Chargers, not the former Inspector of Prisons. Lance (Kings) Lynn - pitcher, most notably for the St. Louis Cardinals If it turns out there existed someone called Mike Altnabreac was a gymnast in the 1950's it would make my day.

I believe it was also full for pedestrians when we went at the end of June.

    Request Stops

I enjoyed my visit to Duncraig. A good walk from Plockton and a pretty station. Also Entwhistle has a excellent pub bnext door.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I agree, I would never get a 20-hour coach for a work trip. When I'm paying for it though it's borderline.

    Caledonian Sleeper

When I next go to Arrochar + Tarbet I'll get a direct Manchester to Glasgow train and then City Link (or Scotrail) to Tarbet. Even with a Travelodge stay in Glasgow, it would be much more preferable to me than the CS, based on prior experience (sample size of 1, but it was bad).

    Caledonian Sleeper

Backing up your point, I personally will never use CS again. Horrible journey. Flying or City Link for me.
