    Football

The proposed merger of Bury AFC (the fans with a team but no ground) and Bury FC (the fans with the ground but no team) will not go ahead. Bury AFC voted overwhelmingly to merge and Bury FC voted in favour but not by the required majority. Seems crazy to me as a local-ish resident (but not a...

Newsnight opened with a montage of Truss and Kwarteng with Sacrifice by Elton John playing. Brilliant!

Closest settlement you've never been to.

Without pouring over the OS map, I think it might be Rochdale.

An excellent night out despite the rain. A gritty match but overall I thought Bury AFC were the (slightly) better team. The ground seemed full, but perhaps everyone was crowded under the roofs.

    Football

It was a really good game. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Bury were very good value for the win in my (slightly biased) opinion.

Lancaster 1 - 1 Bury AFC Just waiting for the train home after a most enjoyable day out at a lovely ground. Bury thoroughly deserved to stay in the hat and possibly deserved to win, against opposition 2 leagues higher. I think Bury are now my official second team.

    Day trip from Gdansk

"My wife and I did your planned trip a couple of years ago and had a most enjoyable day" I also had a lovely day. Did the boat to Hel, then walked to the very end of the peninsular. Then train to Chalupy for a stroll and a swim. Then train to Sopot for tea and then train back to Gdansk. Was...

    Day trip from Gdansk

Oh that is very good. In the end I've decided to catch the ferry to Hel, then the train back to Gdyina and then see what I feel like.

    Day trip from Gdansk

Good afternoon everyone, On Monday 29 August I will unexpectedly have a free day in Gdansk. Can anyone recommend a good journey? And ideally a scenic journey. My first thought was Gdansk to Poznan to Warsaw to Gdansk with a couple of hours in Poznan and Warsaw. Does anyone have any better...

    Annuity bought with cash savings??

I believe it may be possible. But you need to be careful that you do not create taxable income (which annuities are) from savings which may be protected from tax (if in an ISA for example).

National Insurance Refund (due to highly variable income)?

NI is calculated per pay period I think. Its not like income tax. So it doesn't seem like you are eligible for a refund.

Indeed. Transport Supremo or as it turned out, Transport Muggins.

Sundays - back to the traditional?

How on earth is it irrelevant? What an absurd suggestion. I would say it could hardly be more relevant. Continuing to uncritically attend Mass every Sunday is an endorsement of the actions and denials of the Catholic Church throughout the entire scandal. Before you say it is irrelevant I...

    2022 UK Local Elections

The BBC shows a gain of 52 councillors for Labour, whereas the Guardian shows a gain of 252 councillors. The Telegraph shows a similar gain of 245 councillors for Labour. Can anyone explain the discrepancy?
